I second what Kindnessmaters says, I think both as well. I’ve always really liked Saint Francis of Assisi even as a child because he really reflects the love of Christ. I can be mad at something and start humming the Make Me A Channel of Your Peace song and I’m instantly calmed down. So I chose him on this one.
Then after being away from the Church for over 25 years, coming back after a demonic attack, another Saint named Francis found me, Saint Francis De Sales. My renewed faith came under attack by a Protestant right away, and when I would go to bed still needing answers to defend my Catholic faith I would wake up in the middle of the night or in the morning and the answer would be something he had said. I was eventually led to the book The Catholic Controversy, by far the best written defense of the Catholic faith I’ve ever read.
But here is the coolest part. I never told a soul he had become my favorite Saint. On the first Father’s Day after my dad passed away, my mother wanted to give my brother and I a special gift in remembrance of our father. My brothers gift was my grandmother’s old rosary, really special to him. Then it was my turn to open mine, I was so shocked and lost for words… It was a first class relic from Saint Francis De Sales!!! A true miracle indeed. He not only found me in spirit, a physical part of him found me as well.
And get this, I now have one more Saint in heaven with the name Francis. Not knowing the gender of our child when my wife was pregnant early this year, we chose the middle name Francis because it can be used as a boy or girls name. We sadly lost our child to a miscarriage, but when my wife cried out to God that she just wanted to know the gender of our child an unplugged lamp lit up bright pink twice later that day. We then knew it was a baby girl, we then chose her a first name, after Saint Catherine. Our daughters name to us, we call her “Katie Francis.”
So there are my fav Saints and how we all came together, bound by the love of Christ, and family forever. It’s awesome to be Catholic and having no walls to separate us from our family in heaven!!!
