Did you ever cry

There is one french doctor, Pierre Barbet, who wrote a book about the Shroud of Turin after he had analysed it.

He mentions that he got in tears when he realized the suffering the man of the shroud has gone through (I believe this is the shroud that covered Our Lord’s body).

Dr. Barbet even crucified some corpses, and he said crucifixion is really hardcore.
 
It’s been more in the past few years that I’ve become more sensitive to watching death or suffering (in films of course) and when I watched the Passion, I felt my eyes water and my stomach sink. However, I don’t think I’ve ever actually cried with tears freely flowing. Usually if I’m watching a movie or reading something about something sad, my eyes water. I don’t think I’ve every REALLY cried when looking at a picture of Christ or a Cross/Crucifix. Maybe a little eye-watering when thinking of how much He cares for us and the fact that He did that.

The enormity of what Jesus went through makes me cry every time.
 
I cry almost every single time because I feel so guilty about Jesus’ suffering because he died a horrible death and I still sin every single day. My class is performing the Stations of the Cross on Tuesday of Holy Week next week and I was chosen to play the Blessed Virgin Mary. People give me strange looks when I start to cry but they think I’m just acting. When I tell them I’m actually crying because of sadness and what Jesus went through, they don’t understand. I guess it’s just because they don’t fully understand how tragic and sad it is and why he went through that suffering…and then I cry some more.
 
I watched “Son of God” - the one with Roma Downey - and when it got to that scene I thought the same thing…and had the same reaction. He was the Son, but he was also - like every mom - HER son.
 
i’ve never cried in front of an icon or statue; but i will tell you one thing that made me almost “lose it” at saturday night mass

i was in the communion line; and at least in my parish, folks sitting in the “cry room” always seems to go last…

so, i am in line, walking by there, and i see this toddler in his mom’s lap w/ a “football helmet” on

when i say “football helmet” i don’t mean the type notre dame wears

it was obviously designed to protect the child’s skull from whatever malady

the child was behaving good as gold and seemed very happy to be involved

i “choked up” big time…

Yes. Watchin_g Passion of the Christ_ was a turning point, too!

But we had to know that the supplice are a little exagerated. Too much blood to be true, according some critics. It’s art, and Mel Gibson like bloody scenes.

It happens that I cry during prayer, after the Eucharist, when watching or not watching religious art.
 
I have heard this from a movie critics in a debate on this film on a main french radio, in my memory, oh many years ago!
The argument was that a man will be dead before suffer so much, and there was too much blood loss to be realistic.

And nobody contradict him.

But you are a physician, aren’t you?🤔😊
If you have seen this film, I am interested to have your point of view on the realism of this film! 😀

I’m an RN, and I’ve seen trauma victims. I’ve been deployed with the Air Force.

I’m mortified to admit I have yet to see this movie…but I’m planning on watching it this weekend, and I’ll weigh in once I do. Now I"m more than curious.

A lot of critics said the same thing about the movie version of MAS*H. My father was a Navy Corpsman in Korea and flew medevac (helicopter medical evacuation of casualties direct from the scene of the battle) in Vietnam. He said the blood was completely accurate.

I’ll let you know.
 
No, would be very out of character for me. Not really the emotional type.
 
Interesting. Last month I learnt that the Macabees brothers’ relics are at Rome as well. I guess some cruzades brought many treasures from the Crescent to Western Europe.
 
I’ve never cried at anything religious, but I’m not much of a crier

I think the general argument is that Mel Gibson’s movie makes Jesus “superhuman”. I read a few weeks ago from another post that Mel had a scene added where Jesus was pushed from a bridge with a rope around his neck, left to dangle for a bit, then pulled back up. Supposedly a fall like that would have killed anyone instantly, the argument was. Then the scourging on top of that, plus various beatings- the poster didn’t think it was possible for anyone to live long enough to make it to the cross.
 
Yes, many times. Sometimes I’m completely enraptured in His infinite Love when I gaze upon Christ crucified.
