Did you hear Joel Osteen/Pentecostal pastor make fun of the Catholic Baptism?

Um… Jesus specifically asked the Apostles to do that. To baptize people into His Church.
 
Do some protestant denominations not baptize?

The Church does acknowledge a baptism which is called a “baptism of desire”.

I’m a bit confused, a baptism is God’s grace poured out on the child (or adult), the parent’s (their family) and the worshipping community.

To deny baptism is to deny a gift sent directly from God.

I can understand your arguing the point that some people may have never been baptised and upon their death, you are wondering if their soul will need purgation for that.

Which you may not believe in purgation - either the soul spends eternity away from God or is saved by God.

Do they have Scripture to stop the water baptism?
 
To me, so much of these differences stem from protestant denominations’ denial that Jesus instituted a priesthood for His Church.

The same way that God the Father instituted a priesthood for His Church with the Israelites / Jews.

Not to them. The Ethiopian Eunuch (Acts 8) doesn’t matter either.

What they claim is that people receive the “Baptism of the Holy Spirit” which is invisible. But the actual event (Acts 2) was VISIBLE with wind and tongues of fire.

Also, there is no evidence in the entire Bible of anyone baptizing anyone with the Holy Spirit. If the Spirit falls on someone He does so on His own. Yet the command to baptize that Jesus gave was given to men, not the Holy Spirit.

You nailed it. That, and salvation by faith alone.

That’s a good point.

Catholic baptism has a small rite of exorcism attached to it - I’m assuming to cleanse away original sin created by Satan. The entire congregation joins in the rite and reaffirms their vow to fight evil in their lives.
 
I think Mr Osteen is a showman.Part of that may include getting people to laugh.
But I still find it disrespectful to even use or mention other faiths(Catholic or other)for that purpose.Does not speak well of a serious fellow Christian and pastor.
Since there are infinite other subjects to laugh about,I find interesting his jabbing at us Catholics and on a sacred subject like baptism.
 
This is the part that I remember, the worshipping community responding in unison too.

The celebrant questions the parents and godparents (and the congregation).

Celebrant: Do you reject Satan?
Parents & Godparents: I do.

Celebrant: And all his works?
Parents & Godparents: I do.

Celebrant: And all his empty promises?
Parents & Godparents: I do.

Next the celebrant asks for the threefold profession of faith from the parents and godparents.

Celebrant: Do you believe in the God the Father, almighty, creator of heaven and earth?
Parents & Godparents: I do.

Celebrant: Do you believe in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord, who was born of the Virgin Mary, was crucified, died, and was buried, rose from the dead and is now seated at the right hand of the Father?
Parents & Godparents: I do.

Celebrant: Do you believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting?
Parents & Godparents: I do.

The celebrant and the congregation give their assent to this profession of faith:

Celebrant: This is our faith. This is the faith of the Church, we are proud to profess it, in Christ Jesus our Lord.
All: Amen.
 
Jesus died for our sins. All that is asked in return to be saved is that you believe in him. There is no need to ask to be forgiven. What does his sacrifice mean if you then have to be forgiven for a sin you commit?

Respect for televangelists? You mean those people who hate all gays and end up being closeted homosexuals while simultaneously taking your money so they can buy a new Mercedes “for God’s glory”?

I have no respect for such hypocrites who blaspheme the Name of God.

Mr. Osteen is there to entertain and entertainers like to soften the crowd up with the Joke or two and before starting the show. He preaches the gospel of prosperity, that is if we just have enough faith in God we will be prosperous and healthy and happy.

At least that was my opinion until about three weeks ago. I had a client come in a who has always been one of the most miserable people I’ve ever seen suddenly coming in full of joy -having quit drinking and visiting gentlemen’s clubs. Seemed he heard a sermon by Joel Osteen and joined his church. I don’t agree with the gospel preached by Joel Osteen But if God used him to bring hope and joy to my client who am to question it?.

Wow!

Surprise, Surprise! That’s another priestly function Jesus gave to His Apostles - the forgiveness of sins.

In Sacred Scripture, when Jesus entered the upper room after His Resurrection. How does your denomination interpret Jesus’ words.

Challenging the big dog, the Catholic Church, begins with these kinds of attacks.

With his health and wealth message, and no clear leadership from the rest of the Protestant world, why wouldn’t he try to get his hat in the ring?
