Did you know the unborn child has less legal protection from feeling pain than commercial livestock under the Humane Slaughter Act?

           This is unbelievable…

But a new bill introduced this week would change this and give protection to unborn babies.

**[The Unborn Child Pain Awareness Act](http://t.lt04.net/c.asp?ltk=51K%2BLr7FW7lkQOVlFytTknxnkFXCMqT0UwxZHf%2F4sC0%3D)** would require those who perform abortions on unborn children 20 weeks after fertilization or later to inform the woman seeking an abortion of the medical evidence that the unborn child feels pain during the abortion. This information would be provided through a verbal statement given by the abortion provider and by supplying the woman with a brochure – developed by the Department of Health and Human Services – that goes into more detail than the verbal statement.

**[The Unborn Child Pain Awareness Act](http://t.lt04.net/c.asp?ltk=51K%2BLr7FW7lkQOVlFytTknxnkFXCMqT0UwxZHf%2F4sC0%3D)** would also ensure that the woman, if she chooses to continue with the abortion procedure after being given the medical information, has the option of choosing anesthesia for the unborn child, so that the unborn child’s pain is less severe.

This critical bill will highlight the horror of abortion and will help to stop abortions.

**Congressmen and Senators listen to their constituents** so it is very important that you stay involved and continue to contact your Congressman and Senators on key issues this year like the **[Unborn Child Pain Awareness Act](http://t.lt04.net/c.asp?ltk=J7zf3O%2BXKQFkQOVlFytTklYaSohnC%2B3FUwxZHf%2F4sC0%3D)**.

**Help us contact other pro-life Americans and ask them to take action on this critical issue.**

If you know others that will take action, please forward them this e-mail. We will never rent, sell or exchange anyone’s contact information, we just want Americans to take action so we can get life saving legislation passed.

You can add in 5 friends addresses and we’ll send them information about this critical bill.

An April 15-17, 2004, Zogby poll found 77% of Americans favored laws requiring that women who are 20 weeks or more along in their pregnancies be given information about fetal pain before having an abortion.

Let’s make sure Congress knows you agree and ask them to support the [**Unborn Child Pain Awareness Act.**](http://t.lt04.net/c.asp?ltk=WbxGo3VPm29kQOVlFytTklYaSohnC%2B3FUwxZHf%2F4sC0%3D)

Thank you for your undying advocacy to save unborn babies.

And livestock is considered livestock from the moment of conception for insurance purposes. Grain is considered grain form the moment of planting for insurance purposes.

But humans are considered merely tissue from the moment of conception?

That is screwed up.

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE - WEEK ENDING JANUARY 28, 2005

HOUSE AND SENATE IN SESSION

THE CONGRESS

UNBORN CHILD PAIN
AWARENESS

On Wednesday, January 26th, RFC staff participated in a press conference at which Senator Sam Brownback (R-KS) introduced the Unborn Child Pain Awareness Act (S-51). This legislation would require that every woman be told prior to an abortion that her unborn child will feel pain during the abortion procedure. Abortions are not fast. During a D&E procedure in which parts of the baby are torn off, it can take up to 30 minutes for the child to actually die. In third trimester abortions, a salt solution is injected into the womb and inhaled by the child. The burning sensations can last up to one hour before the baby dies. In contrast, Section 2 of the Humane Slaughter Act, 7 USC 1902 requires that “…all animals are rendered insensible to pain by a single blow or gunshot or an electrical, chemical, or other means that is rapid and effective, before shackled, hoisted, thrown, cast or cut.” There are laws to make sure animals being led to slaughter feel no pain, yet social liberals see no problem with the torture of unborn babies. Because the nervous system of an unborn baby is fully developed at 20 weeks, the bill requires that mothers be informed at that point or later in pregnancy. Newly elected Senators Dr.Tom Coburn (R-OK) and Jim Talent (R-MO) joined Senator Brownback at the news conference. In the House the bill was introduced by Congressman Chris Smith (R-NJ). The house bill number is HR 356. I expect some Democrats who have been pro-abortion in the past to move over and support this bill as a result of the last election and polls which show the public continuing to move to a pro-life position.
