Did you receive your ashes with the traditional formula "Remember, man, that you are dust, and into dust you shall return.", or another one?

the mass i went to said “Turn away from sin, be faithful to the Gospel”

Our priest actually used this formula and the “turn from sin & be faithful to the gospel.” He alternated as he was giving ashes.
The Church I attended did this as well. Couldn’t figure out why. I was unable to attend my regular Church and didn’t know this priest or I would have asked!

I have the same observation every Ash Wednesday. You will have people pushing and shoving their way up to get ashes that you never see on Sundays, then they are out the door before the Offertory.
.
Well, as redrosetea said, “Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, if the Lord don’t take you the devil must…”

Perhaps they heard “Devil take the hindmost…” and felt pitchfork tines in the caboose…😃

Oh, and so as not to totally derail, our priest said, “You are dust, and you will return to dust”.

I prefer the more traditional phrase. The above version sounds too NABby.
