Did your priest bring up the homosexual marriage decisions during this weekend's homily?

Nah. Our priest homilized (not sure it’s a proper word, but I think it works) on the Gospel, and the readings, and on the importance and power of faith.

“Daughter, your faith has saved you. Go in peace and be cured of your affliction.”

Thankfully.

The last thing I wanted to hear about, was gay marriage.

Had a belly full of gay marriage from the preceding 36 hours or so.

fwiw.
Same here. It was his first mass in our church after becoming a priest recently! Don’t think he is going to go far off the gospel reading for a while.

Yes. He read a letter from all the bishops in our state then made some comments in keeping with Catholic doctrine.
He read this letter during the homily?

The OP is not asking if your priest brought it up in remarks before dismissal or such. He’s asking if it was part of the homily.

Our priest spoke at length at every Mass this weekend. He preached it well. In short.
  1. He did not want to suggest these relationships between two men or two women were not real and they do not love each other.
  2. But whatever the relationship is, it is not, and never will be marriage.
  3. Marriage is always, and must always be, between a man and a woman.
  4. The change that has come is rooted in people with good intentions wanting to be fair.
  5. Life is not “fair”. The decisions we make in life and things beyond our control will always limit our choices.
  6. Panic about priests and Christians going to jail is unwarranted.
  7. He sees the worst case my be a separation of the Sacrament from civil marriage, as it is in Mexico, where one is married by the state in a civil ceremony, then the priest confers the Sacrament of Matrimony.
  8. He sees this as a real loss to the symbolism of what true marriage is.

His homily was on what was read yesterday. However, at the end of Mass he did bring it up. 🙂

The priest who did the main Mass this Sunday is from India. He is very well liked by everyone but it is difficult to understand his accent.

He talked about Jesus healing the woman by her just touching His cloak, and raising the little girl who died.
He then mentioned that we must pray for Jesus to heal our country because there are many changes which are not good. He did not specifically mention gay marriage, but he at least called attention to the changes in America.

This is where I see this heading.

Our priest mentioned the culture of life in Pope Francis’ encyclical and the culture of death with this newest ruling, never mentioning the words “gay marriage” , as we have many families with small children.

I don’t understand how this follows. Nobody should say the phrase “gay marriage” because the two words are tortured and abused by this context. “Gay” means happy, not homosexual; “marriage” means the lifelong exclusive union of one man and one woman, no more and no less. But if you think that children shouldn’t be educated from the pulpit about the sin of sodomy, who is going to do it? Pixar? NBC?

The small children can’t help but hear it constantly on Radio & TV every single day…They probably know more than the priest does.

Gay used to mean “happy”…not any more. If you tell someone you are feeling “gay”…do you think they will not burst out in laughter?

I have Sinatra singing, “Somewhere Along The Way”. There is a line…“our hearts were carefree & gay”…that’s when it meant, “happy.”

The point is not to use the word anymore since it’s been hijacked. The point is not to allow our opponents to shape the argument by molding the language. It’s not called “marriage” when homosexuals do it.

By the same token, “gender” is a grammatical linguistic term hijacked by the opposition to supplant “sex” as the word for male/female. It is biological sex we need to speak about and not bend to proponents of “gender theory” about whom Pope Francis spoke so critically.

No not on sunday, but saturday at a friend’s wedding, the priest did talk about it for a bit.

I guess someone needs to ask this question. Did anyone read todays readings? Particularly the 1st reading from Genesis? Sodom and Gomorrah. According to today’s views this reading is judgemental and ignorant.😦

Remember, a parish usually has children of every age. Do you want to have to explain to a 4 year old what the priest is talking about when he says “same sex ‘marriage’”? I don’t.

That said, there are certainly ways to go about it that are respectful of children’s innocence. The priest can refer to “the recent Supreme Court ruling” and all the adults will know what he is talking about.

Yes our pastor did bring it up. He is really good about talking about what the Church teaches concerning what is happening in our society. He is one of those type of guys that wants his flock to make it to heaven. I wish all priest were like that.

As someone else mentioned, all priests in Michigan were to read a letter from our bishops. It was just what I personally–and, I suspect, many other Catholics–needed to hear. It was a compassionate, direct, statement about what is true and good about marriage, and why the Church’s teaching will not, cannot, change.

Though it wasn’t part of the homily, it was invigorating to be reminded that the Spirit will continue to speak the truth through the Church. The world and its ideas of right and wrong are a poor gauge.

I’m a little jealous, our priest said nothing.😦

My pastor dealt with it and made what I feel is one of the best statements on this issue.

He said, " Marriage is a natural institution that predates all nations and laws."

I shook his hand after Mass and told him I thought that was “altogether brilliant”. :shamrock2:

Being from Ireland he has previously lamented the similar action by his homeland.

I was hoping that the letter was from US bishops to all churches, but it was just Michigan. We need such re-enforcement of our spirits. Although we all know, intellectually, that the Church will not be defeated, and that the world will always be at odds with Truth, and that we must be in this world but not of this world…
…and that this should all be NO surprise; we should expect it…

We can know all this, but not FEEL it. We need the Church to remind us, reassure us.
