I went to confession yesterday… Of course, I am not doubting God’s mercy, I’m just wondering if the priest really did absolve me. So here’s what happened…
- I did say my sins
- I listened to his advice. A beautiful advice.
- I think I really received the absolution because I remember well that he said a prayer (which was hard to listen because of his way of pronouncing, (probably he came from a province here in the Philippines) right after the advice.
- After saying the prayer, at the end of it it’s vivid on my mind that I did the sign of the cross.
- If the priest were not to absolve you, he would say something like "Sorry son, I cannot absolve you right now, come back again tomorrow."
- The priest didn’t grant me penance, so I asked for it, and he told me to be humble and seek help from our Mother, and I think he also said something other than that.
- I never heard the priest said that to me.
- If I asked my confessor "Father, what’s my penance?" and I only asked for my penance and never my absolution, therefore, I was absolved. Why would I ask for something that I did already receive, right?
- After I asked for my penance, of course he told me what to do. And let’s say he didn’t grant be absolution, then I asked for penance, he would not give it to me, right?
