If we know that the nails were through the wrists of Jesus and not through the palms of the hands, why did saints such as St. Pio and St. Francis suffer the stigmata through the palms of the hands.
We don’t know that the nails went through the wrists. This is a theory that is based on the inability of the palm of the hand to withstand the weight of the body. However, if the nails went through the palm and then through the carpal tunnel, such could support the weight of the body. This seems to be the likelier theory, and also the much more painful one.
