I was hoping that someone could clarify the difference, if any, between a grave sin and a mortal sin? If there is no difference, then why are the different terms used? This question stems from a recent answer on missing mass on Sunday where the Catechism calls the deliberate action a “grave” sin. I was always taught it was a “mortal” sin…
Thank you for your time!

Hi,

In every instance that I have run into the term “grave sin” in the Catechism, the act referred to, has been a mortal sin. I agree that the term “grave” can be misleading. Just read “mortal” for “grave.”
