What are the differences between the two? Like what are the fasting days, or are there extra days that you celebrate? Just wondering what the difference between the two are.

What do you mean by traditional? Do you mean traditional Roman Catholic or the SSPX or FSSP or some other traditional group?

Orthodox fast on all wednesdays and Fridays except for after the great fasts. They have four fasts throughout the year; Great Lent(about 50 days), The Nativity(40 days), The Feast of Peter and Paul(anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 weeks), and that of the Dormition(2 weeks I think). They fast on all days of these fasts including Sunday. When they fast they do not eat any meat or fish or any animal products. They end the fast with a feast.

This is the goal though. Not all Orthodox follow it strictly and they aren’t expected to. Each person is to talk with his spiritual advisor to determine how much he should do.

Questions about Orthodoxy are better directed to the non-Catholic forum…

I’m wondering if Karmastrike’s question relates to those who self-identify as “Orthodox Catholic” (vs. Eastern Orthodoxy) and “Traditional Catholic”.

This is a large question, and I will just take a look at the fasting aspect amongst the churches of the Constantinopolitan tradition (“Byzantine”).

Like any groups there are various levels of keeping the traditions of a particular Church. A minimal fast is recommended by some bishops, but of course a stricter fast can be taken depending on physical ability.

The stricter fast is all Wednesdays and Fridays, the 40 days of Great Lent plus Holy Week, the Apostles Fast (after All Saints until the Feast of Sts. Peter and Paul), the St. Philip’s Fast before the Nativity of our Lord, and the Dormition Fast (August 1 to 14). The strict fast is no meat or dairy products.
