Difference between Soul and Spirit

Can someone explain the difference (if any) between Soul and Spirit.
Ex: My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my savior. Lk 1:46-47.

The Spirit (capital S) usually refers to the Holy Spirit. But spirit (lowercase s) is the same as one’s soul in that it usually refers to one’s eternal being apart from the flesh. In this context in Luke 1 I would say that “spirit” is another name for “soul”. They are interchangeable.
In other words: “My spirit proclaims the greatness of the Lord: my soul rejoices in God my Savior.” or " My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my savior. The message here is that Mary’s “entire being” is magnifying the Lord.
 
Same thing almost! Soul is: spirit with the body. When you die and don’t have the body it is a spirit.

In all of humanity our 'Souls" are one of FOUR Spiritual GIFTS [along with our minds, intelects freewills] given to us with the precise pupose of ALLOWING us to freely choose to know, love, OBEY, and serve God; or to freely chose NOT too.

Our “spirit” is our GRACE ***offered and accepted ***use of these same Gifts to Worship God in an approiate manner! 👍

I’ve always understood the “mind” as bring the same as the “intellect” as a faculty of the Soul, which is our human life, made possible by the spirit or breath from GOD; just as Adam became “a living soul” when breath from GOD entered his nose.

In death, our “Life” goes into abeyance because there is “noBODY” to be alive; until we are “made alive in the spirit”, like our LORD, as a “Spiritual Body.” And because we emerge into eternity at the close of natural life, we do not experience the abeyance at all. We go from “strength to strength.”

This is what i remember reading(last week) about the spirit in a “Transformed by Grace-Dom Wulstan Mork OSB”

it’s man’s orientation to God,mans capability of supernatural union with God. It’s kind of a spiritual “organ” given by God and the more our intellect and will are in union with the Lord the more we walk in the spirit as St Paul says.

For the word of God is living and effectual, and more piercing than any two edged sword; and reaching unto the division of the soul and the spirit, of the joints also and the marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

The spirit is the animating principle of the body. It is what gives it life.

The soul is the rational principle of the body. It is what gives it thought.

I think I agree with Mardukm.

The spirit is the vivfying principle that keeps the body and soul together.

If we could simply look at a calendar and say this is the difference between the “soul and spirit” then i would say, show it to me, and i will confirm it, according to the law. 😃
