Could someone please explain to me the difference in Sunday morning mass and what goes on thru out the week?? Why do you attend one and not the other??

Thanks in advance!

The weekday Masses differ from Sunday Mass in the number of readings and which prayers are recited, but otherwise there is no difference.

One is obligated to attend Mass each Sunday and on Holy Days of Obligation.

There is no *obligation *to attend daily Mass. It is available for our spiritual nourishment and everyone is encouraged to attend daily mass if they are able to. Some people can’t due to work/schedule conflicts.

Thanks for the quick answer.

I work every other weekend and would not be able to attend a Saturday or Sunday Mass on the weekends that I work because I work 12 hour shifts(7-7). Is that acceptable?

If you have to work and really cant go its okay. But it wouldnt hurt to go during the week if you could. Believe it or not you will love it. It is usually only twenty minutes long, and you get the Eucharist. that is the most important. Now speaking for myself i like to go on wed too thats my day off, but when i come out i feel so so good. ITs different try it.

Absolutely! I’ll definitely go on my days off. Since I work 12 hour shifts, I will work Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in work week (60 hours). Next week I will work on Wednesday and Thursday (24 hours). So that gives me 5 days off one week and 2 days off the other week.

Daily Mass is a real blessing. I love it.

You might also find out if your parish does Eucharistic Adoration, which is another really great blessing!

Hi Rodney,

First, I would like to say God bless you for sincerely seeking Truth. Welcome to the forum!

If you do come to the conclusion that you would like to join the Catholic Church, and the work pattern you describe is permanent, you may want to talk to a priest about it. The Sunday/Saturday vigil Masses are special, in that the Church has chosen specific Scripture readings to be read on those days. Also, in many places, certain other Holy Days of Obligation have been moved so that they are observed on a Sunday.

Although our worship at Mass can be very private, the celebration of Mass is also a very communal event. We are gathering together as the Body of Christ in our Eucharistic celebration. I think this coming together is important for nourishing us spiritually, and it is at Sunday Mass that the majority of the practicing Church community is present.

Another thing you may want to consider is the commandment to keep holy the Lord’s day. It may be hard to do this if you are working twelve hours and have no time for reflection or rest or works of charity, which are all good for our spiritual health and that of those around us. I understand if this is your only option at the time, but I just thought I would put a few things out there for you to ponder.

Here are some links you might want to check out, and they explain it much better than I do! 👍
