while i am at it lets finish this. Jesus said we should not call any man on earth Father. Okay here it is. the context of our Lords remarks we see the he was denouncing the pharisees for requiring people to perform hard tasks while avoiding such works themselves. Instead of helping people ligten their burdens pharisee were fond of places of honor at banquets and front seats in synagogues, marks of respect in public and of being called rabbi. read matt 23:1-12. Jesus point was not that the choice of teachers and fathers is wrong he was critiicizing the pharisees for abusing the authority attached to these titles. that is according to the Catholic faith.

I am just asking is the name Pope not mean Father?

Thanks God Bless
The title of ‘pope’ originates before 900 A.D. in old English as ‘papa’, and from Latin ‘pope’ and ‘pater’ meaning ‘bishop’ or ‘father’. If you go to late Greek, it comes from ‘papas’ (bishop, priest) and ‘pappas’ -‘father’. In Italian, the title is Il papa meaning ‘papa’ or ‘daddy’. The title ‘patriarch’ also means the same, such as being “the head of the family.” In Christian terms, the patriarch or bishop is head of the Christian community in his area (diocese).

My dates are all approximations of 5-10 years:

Was John referring to the Book of Revelation or to the Bible? Remember, New Testament Scripture had not yet been determined at the time Revelations was finalized - approximately 80-90 AD. Also, the content of the Old Testament was in dispute. The Jews met at Jamia at that time and rejected 7 books in the Septuagint because there were no Hebrew texts, also possibly in retaliation to Christians, because these books were universally accepted by Christian converts. Hebrew Texts of these 7 books have subsequently been discovered at Qumran in the 1940’s.

The New Testament texts had not yet been codified. There were disputes over which writings were Sacred, and should there be only one Gospel, because some of the writings seemed to contradict each other.

It was only in 380, that St. Jerome compiled the Latin Vulgate at the request of Pope St. Damasius. Even Jerome disputed the 7 books, but finally submitted to the authority of Rome. The Pope wanted Scripture in the common language of the day in the Western Empire so all could read it. So he asked St. Jerome to translate from the original Greek and Hebrew texts. This version of the Vulgate was affirmed at three church coucils in 390-410, and then at Trent in response to the Martin Luther’s removing 7 OT books, and disputing James and Revelations as the inspired word of God.
 how can you claim to be Catholic, yet not believe? What did you not believe that you believe now? What are they telling you that makes you feel uncomfortable?
I find this very difficult to believe. First of all, the priest proclaims the Gospel from the pulpit, along with two other reading by lectors, these usually include one OT and one Espistle, plus singing of Psalms and Gospel Acclamation. AT EVERY SUNDAY MASS. In a three year cycle, we will have read from EVERY book in the Bible, not just those personal passages some preachers like to rant on. The Catholic Church provides much opportunity for Scripture Study with in parishes, we have two going right now.
Thank you for responding:
I don’t believe I will be using this forum again. As I have heard the responces it feels like a feeding frenzi. I don’t believe this is the forum to address my concerns. I will go through the church. I would love to answer your questions, but I will not on the forum. There are unbelievers, and bretheren from other denominations. If you would like a responce please send a private massage to me. I am new and I am still figurng out how to use the site, but I think I slould be able to figure it out if you send me a message.

Thank you

In Christ

While your at it… where can I read in the Bible about Purgatory? or Rosaries?
Psalm049:006 They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;
049:007 None of them can **by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him: **049:008 **(For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:) **

so much for purgatory.

A homily is meant to be an extremely significant part of the mass that explains the Scripture of that particular mass in way that the parishioners can live it out. If the Church didn’t want us to read or study the Bible, why would homilies be said at mass? Each mass includes an OT reading, a Psalm, an Epistle, and the Gospel. Even though the Bible should be read daily, what is read at mass is probably more read by the average Christian. The homily is not the place to promote Bible studies, that is reserved for the bulletin. And most priests probably assume, as they should, that most Catholics at that mass are already studying the Bible on their own. If a priest discovers that is a problem, then I’m sure it will be addressed. But, a lack in studying Scripture should not be an issue for devout Catholics, that is why it is not addressed in homilies.
Thank you for responding

After writing on this site I reconized that I should not use this site to get answers. I will be going through the church to get answers. If you wish for me to respond to you please send me a private message.

We fully anticipate an outbreak of anti-Catholic propaganda and protests that will attempt to sabotage the **Holy Father’s **historic visit to our country <—front page

“Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.” -Jesus, Mark 7:9

Psalm 118:8 admonishes, “It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.”

“Confounded be all they that serve graven images, that boast themselves of idols” -Psalm 97:7

Matthew 23:8-11, “But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren. And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven. Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ. But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.”

Simply stated, the Bible condemns allowing ministers to come between us and God. We read in 1st Timothy 2:5, “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”

Heb012:002 Looking unto Jesus the **author and finisher **of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

1 Cor 13:1

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.

Psa 138:2 I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: **for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name. **

Pro 30:5 Every word of God [is] pure: he [is] a shield unto them that put their trust in him.

Luk 4:4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.

Deu 8:3 And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by** every [word] that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live. **

Psa 68:11 The Lord gave the** word**: great [was] the company of those that published [it].

Psa 119:160 Thy word [is] true [from] the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments [endureth] for ever.

“For we are not as many,** which corrupt the word of God:** but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.” -2nd Corinthians 2:17

Neither shalt thou set thee up any image; which the LORD thy GOD hateth." -Deut. 16:22

The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.” -Psalm 12:6-7

Isaiah 7:14 - “Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”

Matthew 1:23 - “Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.”

“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” —Hebrews 4:12

Eph 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, **and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: **

Luk 3:7 Then said he to the multitude that came forth to be baptized of him, **O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? **

21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23 And then will I profess unto them,** I never knew you**: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

I NEVER KNEW YOU He does not say I once Knew you, I knew you before. I NEVER KNEW YOU

Proverbs 6:

16 There are six things the LORD hates,
seven that are detestable to him:

19 a false witness who pours out lies
and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.

Catechism of the Catholic Church:

838 "The Church knows that she is joined in many ways to the baptized who are honored by the name of Christian, but do not profess the Catholic faith in its entirety or have not preserved unity or communion under the successor of Peter."322 Those "who believe in Christ and have been properly baptized are put in a certain, although imperfect, communion with the Catholic Church."323 With the Orthodox Churches, this communion is so profound "that it lacks little to attain the fullness that would permit a common celebration of the Lord’s Eucharist."324

2088 The first commandment requires us to nourish and protect our faith with prudence and vigilance, and to reject everything that is opposed to it.

2106 "Nobody may be forced to act against his convictions, nor is anyone to be restrained from acting in accordance with his conscience in religious matters in private or in public, alone or in association with others, within due limits."34 This right is based on the very nature of the human person, whose dignity enables him freely to assent to the divine truth which transcends the temporal order. For this reason it "continues to exist even in those who do not live up to their obligation of seeking the truth and adhering to it."35

in scripture the word to know some one is to suggest a initmate pysical knowledge,as in… how can that be for i have not known a man?by your words fisher Christ will say i never knew you because you do not partake in His flesh in the Eucharist.Christ has more than just a spritual knowledge of catholics He has an intimate physical knowledge of them as well.

I did not say anything Its all from the word of God.

THE BLOOD of Jesus Christ his Son CLEANSETH US FROM ALL SIN."

–1 John 1:7

“And from Jesus Christ, who is faithful witness… Unto him that loved us, and WASHED US FROM OUR SINS IN HIS OWN BLOOD,”

–Rev. 1:5

and without the shedding of blood is no remission."

–Heb. 9:22

The wafer does not preserve you from future sins. If it did, you would be sinless by now. Obviously it is not working. However, there is a way you can protect yourself from sin, and that is abiding in God’s word:

“Thy WORD have I hid in mine heart, THAT I MIGHT NOT SIN AGAINST THEE.”

–Psalm 119:11

“Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? BY TAKING HEED THERETO ACCORDING TO THY WORD.”

God Bless thank you!

Yes we call him the Holy Father. according to the Jerome Biblical Comentary the use of the title father began in monasteries as a form of address to the abbot as father of the monastic family. it was then extended to other monks who served spiritual directors and later generally applied to clergy.
Thank you! God Bless

while i am at it lets finish this.

Actually, in reading through the Bible, one thing that bothers me is the passage from Ecclesiastes 7:3
"
3 Sorrow is better than laughter,
because a sad face is good for the heart. "
If sorrow is better than laughter, then why have the clown Mass. Isn’t the clown Mass put on in order to provoke laughter?
Bobzills - I am not sure what you mean by “clown Mass”. But they are talking about wisdom and foolishness. It is better for your heart to mourn the death than to have some foolish party ! Read on the rest of the chapter and you’ll see that wisdom does not come from foolish behavior but by sorrow and pain at times.

Come to any medium ground on your "meat on Friday " issue.?

No one is our Father except God our “Holy Father”, I do not think anyone is worthly to take or think they can take God’s seat on His Throne! No, humility or humbleness in that, is there, if we do? So Pope---- means Father, they just do not come out saying in English Father, but when we say Pope------ we are saying Father right! Pope---- means Father.

God Bless
