I don’t normally start threads but there was a discussion on another thread about Catholic Meditation compared to meditation in other traditions. RobHom was kind enough to post the following about Catholic Meditation and transcendental meditation.

According to this study:
“Our data suggest that meditation practice can promote cortical plasticity in adults in areas important for cognitive and emotional processing and well-being,” says Sara Lazar, leader of the study and a psychologist at Harvard Medical School."
I would like to add this link that contains more information about Buddhist meditation on compassion and its effects on the brain. This type of meditation in my tradition is called Metta-Bhavana. I don’t know the Tibetan Buddhist word for it. The process is pretty much the same.
