Different Faiths

Hi All,

I am not nor would I step on anyone’s beliefs, as I know that there are non-Catholics that post and read here. I am happy for all of those that believe and follow the teachings of Jesus. But I always wondered when and who started other Christian Faiths. Below is a link that has some (only some as there are so many) dates and names of church founders. I found it interesting and thought I would post for others as I know that some groups always speak out against Catholics and our traditions and Church.

I agree with this previous poster - all Christianity is founded by/in Christ, hence the name. If they were a follower of someone else, it wouldn’t be Christianity.

But … we know that certain people started their own movements. Luther, Calvin, etc. These days Protestant groups continually split over doctrine, and pastors start their own groups which are based on their beliefs. I have a friend who left the Catholic church and joined a non-denom community started by a man who felt called to re-create the genuine church, right in his living room. I’m sorry, such people can talk all they want about Jesus starting their church, but the fact is that it is a certain person who is behind it. What these people believe often has very little to do with what the Apostles and the Church Fathers taught. They think they are rebuilding the early church community, but in reality they create something very different

Yet, they themselves proudly point to their founding dates, and their founders - for example, the Presbyterians say they were founded in 1560 by a decree of the British Parliament, responding favourably to the request of John Knox and his supporters.

Presbyterians would never say that their religion was founded by Christ (they say that He never founded any religion) and they would not try to say that it predates the Reformation.
