Do some people just not know what to do with themselves unless they are spending money?

Angie
Read the crux of your post again - you didn’t ask what you should do, you asked us to pass unflattering judgement.

I’m going to be frank, you post pretty frequently about social struggles, and you’re a single woman lucky enough to not only have church friends and neighbors who want to include you in outings (ask single people how hard that can be to come by), but who are willing to pay for your company.

Your response, rather than gratitude, is to post paragraphs about your financial priorities and then ask us to analyze your friends to validate your long term planning as superior and their love of socializing over a restaurant meal as some sort of personal deficiency.

I agree with the poster who said you may want to consider if your “frugality” is harming your relationships. You’re a lucky woman to have these people, and as you get older, social bonds become even more vital. Either start going with them and paying your own way as an investment in the relationships and buy the new car in 7.5 years instead, or let them buy you dinner but invite them over for a big, home cooked dinner party.

Or, find reasons to sneer at their generosity and convince yourself that friends who regularly go out to dinner are shallow and irresponsible with money.🤷
