Different religions and what God REALLY intended!

True religion is like Christ said-“Love God with all your heart and your neighbor as yourself.” If one were to do that, totally opening themselves to God, let God lead you where he wills. Christ said I am the Door. If you were to get to that door and open it you would see paradise and amongst those beautiful hills and valleys will be many mansions, with other doors not your own. God leads others in different faiths and if they truly follow him and not the “door frame” he is pleased.–nicolo

quote=Ahimsa Yes, God likes religious diversity as well.

Well, God did found two different religions. Ask your local Rabbi what the other one is!

Then why do some faiths don’t believe in the REAL God we Chiristians do? Think that will please God?

no, no… i’m sorry but you are wrong. the Catholic Church as the Mystical Body of Christ, holds the whole Truth. Christ established and wanted the Holy Catholic Church. Certainly Christ did not want heresy. Christ did not want Luther. Luther is anathema, he brought heresy and division. Protestantism is heresy, is division, is relativism and subjectivism, liberalism.
Regarding child molester priests, applies Mark 9, 42: “Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe (in me) to sin, it would be better for him if a great millstone were put around his neck and he were thrown into the sea.”

God did not found TWO religions. The Jews were God’s chosen people. Some of them could not accept Jesus Christ. Christ was and is the Messiah. He did not want the Jews to reject Him but they did. Jesus was the FULFILLMENT of the Old Covenant, not the Founder of a new religion.

Do I make any sense??

Other religions exist for a few reasons. One is simply the devil wanting to stear souls away from the truth. Another is that people do not want to obey the commands of God or acknowledge His authority over their lives and dilute or twist His teaching to mesh with what they want:

2 Tim 4:3-4
**3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, **
4 and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths.

There is one original church and many counterfeits. Counterfeits look like the real thing, but have serious flaws that make them counterfeit. A counterfeit Jesus has no power. He said ‘many will come in my name and say that I am He, do not believe them…’

There is only one Jesus. If other religions were acceptable ways to God/heaven then God the Father sent Jesus to die for nothing. If Buddhism or the like were a way to heaven then God made a mistake in sending His only begotten to die on a cross when He didn’t have to. The preincarnate Christ could have stayed in heaven with the Father and enjoyed unbroken fellowship. But He didn’t! That alone should speak volumes regarding the validity of other faiths, and the validity of our own faith!!

Thanks

There is a big difference, NonDenom, between the Truth and the poor adherence to it by sinners. There are a lot of sinners in the Catholic Church; there are hypocrites in the Catholic Church; there are those who preach false doctrine and still try to affiliate themselves (and claim to speak for) the Catholic Church. None of this changes the Truth. There are no “untruths” in Catholicism in that the Church does not teach error. I know that you don’t agree with that, but, assume for a moment that it is true. That would not prevent perverts from making their way into the priesthood. It wouldn’t prevent people who reject the Gospel from trying to teach a false gospel in the name of the Church. It wouldn’t prevent faithful Catholics from slipping up and coming off as arrogant either. So, rather than lashing out at the individuals whom you judge to be out of line in some way, try to stick with commenting on the original post. Did God intend for there to be so many denominations whose doctrines and interpretation of Scripture, in many cases, are contradictory and mutually exclusive?

Absolutely. It is erroneous and dangerous to equal Catholicism and other religions. In fact, Catholicism is not a religion. Christ did not found any religion. Christ is God revealing himself.

Not trying to sound rude or anything NonDenom but don’t tell me you’re gonna sit there and tell us that nonCatholics are innocent! ALL churches have their own problems! We’re all sinners for crying out loud!
No, the CC IS Christ’s Church! There were NEVER Protestantism or other nondenoms that existed 2,000 years ago.

I’m not trying to be rude either, but maybe you should go and read my post again,

So can Satan…

That is a treacherous road to go.

God already told people where he willled them to go. It’s located in Rome 🙂

Discernment shouldn’t be necessary anymore, but alas, the split really led people astray.

There are many problems among math teachers, yet the truth of 2+2=4 endures…despite the incompetence of the one teaching it…😉

The fact that there are a few “bad eggs” so to speak in the Catholic Church really proves nothing about the Church beyond what we already know–that it is a hospital for sinners, not a gallery of saints. As for untruths in Catholicism, there is not one single article of the Catholic faith that contradicts the teachings of the first century Christians as indicated by historical record. Even more importantly, you will not find one Catholic doctrine or practice that contradicts Scripture. You can sling verses all day, but remember this–Jesus didn’t teach in chapter and verse. He taught in whole, a full truth. Taking certain statements out of context from Scripture proves nothing, just as holding up a few bad Catholics proves nothing about the Church–except to enforce the reason Jesus came.

“I came not to call the just, but sinners to penance.” (Luke 4:32)

Hi Edward
This is where you are wrong, there are many Catholic beliefs that are not even in scripture. The leadership of your church back in the day taught the following of tradition so that they could control the people. That is why most Catholics were not encouraged to read scripture, masses were read in Latin not long ago and most Catholics dont even speak or understand Latin. They would tell you what to believe
There are scriptures that encourage us to read scripture,

1Pe 2:2 Like newborn babies, thirst for the pure milk of the word so that by it you may grow in your salvation.

Scripture also warns us against following the traditions of men,

Mar 7:9 Then he said to them, "You have a fine way of rejecting the commandment of God in order to keep your own tradition!

Mar 7:13 You are destroying the word of God through your tradition that you have handed down. And you do many other things like that."

Col 2:8 See to it that no one enslaves you through philosophy and empty deceit according to human tradition, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.

Thanks

Somehow I knew this was coming…let’s see…
The leadership of your church back in the day taught the following of tradition so that they could control the people.
What does following tradition have to do with controlling the people? Show me one specific instance of this, rather than a vague generalization.
That is why most Catholics were not encouraged to read scripture,
Actually, practical reasons prevented basically anyone from reading Scripture or much of anything for that matter. Until Gutenburg introduced the moveable type in Europe, only the very wealthy could afford books. And besides, the very first Christians didn’t even have a New Testament. The Canon of Scripture wasn’t formally defined until the Councils of Hippo and Carthage in the 300s.
masses were read in Latin not long ago and most Catholics dont even speak or understand Latin.
The Mass was in Latin because a great deal of it developed in Rome–at least in the Latin Rite. Masses were also in Coptic, Syriac, Old Church Slavonic, and dozens of other languages in the Eastern rites. If the Church hoped to decieve the people by not having the Mass in the vernacular, then she went about it in a rather self-defeating manner: Missals which gave a translation of the Latin have been around for years. Latin also served as a unifying factor within the Church–one could attend a Mass in Chicago or in Tokyo and still hear the same thing.
They would tell you what to believe
Who else would, at least in the early years of the Church? If this “they” you speak of is the Church, then that’s exactly who should be telling you what to believe–Jesus founded a visible Church, not a publishing company. Nowhere, other than Revelation, is anything of NT times commanded to be written down. It was the infallible teaching authority of the Church that Jesus founded–the Catholic Church–that assembled the Canon of Scripture out of numerous first century writings that all could have been held as inspired–but weren’t because of the divine guidance of the Church by the Holy Spirit.
Scripture also warns us against following the traditions of men,
You’re exactly right, although it doesn’t say outright that we should altogether avoid man-made traditions, just the ones that abrogate the commandments of God. If you could name specific man-made traditions of the Catholic Church that are leading people away from God, then I’ll be sure to avoid them.

Try reading:

“stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught by us, either by word of mouth or by letter” (2 Thess. 2:15).

How thoughtful of the mean, evil, old Catholic Church to preserve Scripture for everyone to read…despite the “fact” that the Church didn’t want people to read it.

There is a significant difference between believing something that is not in Scripture (such as the doctrine of the Trinity - three persons in one God, which books comprise the Bible, or that the Bible is the sole source of Divine Revelation) and believing something that is contrary to Scripture. If you have spent any time at all reviewing some of the Apologetics threads, you will find that this horse has been beaten into a pile of glue.

Back to the original point, NonDenom, do you believe that it was God’s Will for there to be thousands of Christian “denominations” that teach contradictory dogma? I’m not just referring to Catholics versus Protestants. There are significant departures among various groups of Protestant denominations. For example, many charismatic/pentecostal Christians believe that one can lose their salvation through sinful behavior and a rejection of God after being “saved”, while Fundamentalist Christians believe in absolute assurance of salvation once one is “saved”, regardless of subsequent behavior or attitude. Is this what God intended, regardless of who is right or who is wrong? I believe this is the essence of the original post and not how arrogant and misguided us Catholics are.

If it makes you sick to read such arrogance why are you particiapting in a Catholic Forum?

Its not arrogance, BTW, it the TRUTH. The Catholic Church is the one true Church, founded by Jesus Christ the leadership of which was entrusted to St Peter and his sucessors. That this is the TRUTH was undisputed for 1500 years. The arrogance comes from those who turned their back on the One True Church and decided they could interpret Scripture any way they deemed to. To buy into the Protestant view of the Truth one must believe that Guttenberg is co-redeemer with Christ and that for 1500 plus years God allowed his Church to exist in Error.

The leadership of your church…
The leadership of the One, Holy, Catholic, Apostolic, Roman, Christ’s Beloved Church…

I understand you: must be hard to realize that Luther was anathematized because of heresy. Year 1520, he abandoned the Church, because of his devilish pride and evil superbia… And that original heresy leads to more heresy. You can speak properly about “your” church, more than 40.000 denominations (division is the task of Satan). But we are the new chosen people, members of the Catholic Church, founded by Christ, living in Christ. You can find sinners, even the Pope is a sinner. The only reason the gates of Hell do not prevail is because of Christ’ love for his Catholic Church, not because of men.

The fruits of Protestantism are like those of the fig tree: division, liberalism, relativism, subjectivism, in the long term… atheism… I understand you, must be terrible to be outside…
