If a statement is true then all other statements that contradict it must be false. The same is true with religion.

For us it boils down to this; the resurrection of Jesus Christ. If there was no resurrection then we would not be Christians. If we do not believe in the resurrection then we would not be Christians. As far as I know, all other religions deny the Resurrection, which makes sense since they are not Christians. The Resurrection is a historical event although there were no witnesses in the tomb. However, there were witnesses to the Ascenssion.

It is possible that Jesus did leave us a piece of physical evidence of his Resurrection, the cloth that was left inside the tomb that John and Peter saw.

Naturally you would say this, as you are Christian. Just because Christianity teaches something does not make it so. Deity has been revealed to many different people in many different ways. Christianity’s interpretation is no more valid than any others. I could just as easily say that Christianity is a vain, misguided search for god.
But the very basis of the Catholic Faith is that it is not an interpretation, it is not a search by Man for God. It is pure, full, unadulterated Revelation, and a direct outreach by God to Man. As for God revealing himself to different people in many different ways, this is true, but as Christians we believe that Jesus IS God, and is therefore the most perfect Truth of Himself. In essence, God Himself has personally come to instruct us, and redeem us. Of course you are fully entitled to reject all of this. God respects our human freedom; after all, He created it.
As for magic (why do people insist using a ‘k’?) I use it as prayers, to help improve parts of my life, but certainly not for power. That’s ridiculous.
I add the ‘k’ to distinguish the occult from the entertainment, which defines ‘magic’ in the sense of illusion, not as an actual metaphysical force. When a person tries to channel spiritual forces to influence their lives, that is power, isn’t it? I don’t mean it in the sense of bestowing status, but only in the sense that you are personally using it. I wouldn’t call it ridiculous though, as there are people who try to manipulate spirituality for malevolent and selfish ends. Isn’t that the difference between ‘black’ and ‘white’ magick? Regardless, both of these are seen as dangerous and sinful from a Christian perspective, as you probably know.

I can’t belive this conversation has been allowed to go on so long. Yes, there are different religions, and yes there is even different denominations within Christianity, but Catholicism is the One True Religion, that was established by Jesus Christ himself.

Name me one other “Christian” denomination that has 2000 years of unbroken history. Name me one other denomination that has an unbroken line of succession back to the Apostles, back to Jesus Himself.

Catholicism is the one true religion.

Christian values are not something we as individuals created on our own just to make other people’s lives misserable. BlessedBe13, you seem to not value anything that the Bible has given us. I am sadden that you have such cold thoughts on the Laws that the Holy Spirit Himself has given mankind to live by. You do have free will. He has given us that as well. It is a decision for each of us to make weather we want everlasting life or to condemn ourselves to the fire of the Abyss. Being a true christian would mean we are to apply our charitable ways to each other and not to mislead. Peace to you and God Bless

Not wanting to put down Catholicism, but even this religion has their down falls, as all religions do. It is written in the scriptures that Christ has different types of religions to pass on his spiritual words. In the eyes of the Holy Spirit, we are to focus on one main issue, that is to be charitable to each other and loving. And to love the Holy Spirit with all your heart, soul, mind, and spirit. Peace

That’s a tautology. Every religion was founded by its founder.

While not Christian, Hinduism has about 4000 years of history.

** While not Christian**, Hinduism has about 4000 years of history.
**" While not Christian" **So then isn’t that response pointless?

It seems that so many posts here emphasize some truths in any religion. That is true to a greater or lesser degree.
They also give many analogies toward the proposal that these truths are common, but expressed differently, and they are sufficient for their adherents to gain eternal happiness…the purpose of any religion.

I propose:
  1. Any religion that has some truth must, by that statement, have some errors known as untruth, known as false or even lies.
  2. True worship and obedience without the mixture of untruth is a requirement of a true relation, by definition.
My analogy would then be as follows:
In the matter of life and death of the body, mixing fruit juice with arsenic is fatal, regardless of how much fruit juice there is or how much nourishment it contains. As you continue to drink it, you will all the more cetainly kill yourself.
In the matter of religion, one likewise cannot ignore the untruth or lies or objective dishonor towards the True God. The more we practice a truth mixed with untruth or lies, the more certainly the untruth or lies will kill the life of the soul towards achieving eternal happiness.

The intent of the Christian God is to reveal the truth without untruth mixed up in it. After all, the the gentiles had some truth all along.
So, the entire purpose of revealed truth without error is to save the souls of mankind into eternal happiness with Him when we leave this earthly life. After Christ was raised from the dead on that morning, God put the divine stamp of truth on Jesus Christ. The false religions were no longer overlooked or tolerated.
It gave certitude to all the truth He taught.
Matt 10:36 And as a man’s enemies shall be they of his own household. 37 He that loveth father or mother more than me, is not worthy of me; and he that loveth son or daughter more than me, is not worthy of me. 38 And he that taketh not up his cross, and followeth me, is not worthy of me. 39 He that findeth his life, shall lose it: and he that shall lose his life for me, shall find it. 40 He that receiveth you, receiveth me: and he that receiveth me, receiveth him that sent me.

Therefore, to ignore, reject or oppose any of this revealed truth is to put our souls in serious danger.

We are to adhere to OBJECTIVE divinely revealed truth and not suppress it through SUBJECTIVE speculation as to any one individual exception, and then amplify it to include all. By this method, the OBJECTIVE truth becomes void or of no effect in the mind of man…spiritual arsenic.

Besides, Christianity makes up many people from ALL nations, races, etc. If you look at other religions, to me I don’t see ALL kinds of people with other religions if you know what I mean!
Just curious…“All kinds of people” meaning, what?

When a person tries to channel spiritual forces to influence their lives, that is power, isn’t it?
I suppose you could put it that way, but any serious magic I have done or have known others to do was through the use of the natural energies around us, not spiritual forces. I wouldn’t say that I am exerting power over energy, I am working with it.
I wouldn’t call it ridiculous though, as there are people who try to manipulate spirituality for malevolent and selfish ends.
That is true. I just said ridiculuous for a couple reasons: a). I wouldn’t do that sort of thing b). People who do are ridiculous and foolish.
Isn’t that the difference between ‘black’ and ‘white’ magick?
There is no black or white magic. Magic is neutral. It is the intent of the person behind the magic that could make it “good” or “bad”.
Regardless, both of these are seen as dangerous and sinful from a Christian perspective, as you probably know.
I do know. 🙂 IMO, I don’t see why, as it is not calling upon spirits, or demons, etc. to perform certain tasks or to manipulate my surroundings (true, some people probably do try this, but as stated earlier, I see that as foolish). Instead I am using, natural, god-created energies to influence my life and, in addition I pray.

I am aware of that. I used to be Catholic, so while I may not agree with Christian teachings, I believe I have a decent understanding of them.
BlessedBe13, you seem to not value anything that the Bible has given us.
I am no longer Christian, so the Bible has no religious value to me. I’m sure there is interesting historical information that can be gathered from it. And I don’t disagree with everything the Bible teaches. The 10 Commandments, in general, give good advice to live by.
It is a decision for each of us to make weather we want everlasting life or to condemn ourselves to the fire of the Abyss.
That really isn’t much of a “free decision”. Of course, most people would not want to spend eternity in torment, but the Christian God seems to imply “follow me and what I say or be condemed to torture forever”. That’s not giving too much of a free choice. Quite similar, in my opinion, to being told at gunpoint to do something or else they will be shot. Most people would probably do what the gunman tells them to do.

TNT, absolutely perfect!

There is only one truth - “truth” mixed with lies is not truth, it’s worthless, deadly even - that one truth can be found in The Church of God which is The Catholic Church.

You won’t find it anywhere else.

No matter what the Council (I hear the crys of “contradiction”) says about “rays of light” or other religions worshipping the same God as us - especially the Muslims (a real travesty of truth).

The modernist view is that all religion is subjective. All “truth” is subjective.

This is heresy (not a politically correct word anymore).

The Church has been here before.

“Only one offense is now vigorously punished, an accurate observance of our fathers’ traditions.” - St Basil

It is obvious that something very negative took place in your life to cause you to fall away from the Bible. The free will that the Holy Spirit gave us is just that, FREE. For one to point a gun at another and tell them they have a choice of dieing or do as I say is completely different. The person holding the gun made a free will decision of killing someone off the face of this earth, The Holy Spirit gives you the free will to learn from mistakes and repent. He continues to let us live even after some of our foolish behavior. Once a gunman shoots you, he can not turn around and say come back to life, I was wrong. Only the Holy Spirit has this authority. The Holy Spirit does not hold you back from being a sinner, He does hope that you do not, but it is a choice we have while still alive on earth. We also should stay focus on forgiving as well. You can move forward in life much easier when doing so.
