Different type of Alleluia for Gospel Acclaimation

At Mass this past Divine Mercy Sunday the choir replaced the standard three Alleluia’s for the Gospel Acclaimation with a weird song that they also sang in place of the Gloria. The song went like this:

Hallleh-halleh-halleh…Hallelujiah, Hallleh-halleh-halleh…Hallelujiah,
Hallleh-halleh-halleh…Hallelujiah, Give glory and praise to the Lord.

This is sung at a quick tempo and is the response to the cantor singing other stanzas alone. If I recall, everyone sang the above once, then the cantor sang something alone, then everyone repeated the above. I didn’t like it at the beginning of Mass and was pretty upset it was the Gospel Acclaimation song instead of Alleluia’s.
This is at our cathedral which we’ve just started going to during Lent, at which time were were singing the latin Sanctus, Agnus Dei and one other latin that I’m trying to remember. I was in heaven with that! And now they switch to this Hallelujiah thing?

So, am I being obnoxious or is this really a bad thing for them to be doing?

It’s one of those passing fad things that should just pass away. Why they can’t stick to the normal Alleluia is beyond me. Of course, if your choir is using anything by OCP, that would explain it. Some of Bob Hurd’s Mass settings shouldn’t be heard. He takes liberties with the parts of the Mass and adds and subtracts things. Christopher Walker is just as bad.
