Different Ways Saints Connected to God

Another questions for my 8th grade confirmation class. I am trying to find examples from saints where they used different means to communicate and further their relationship with God. For instance, which sainst were more contemplative, which more more prayers, which were more intellectual, etc. Anyone know where I can go to find this information?

The scripture telling of Mary and Martha is a good place to start. Martha loving God by serving others, Mary staying at the feet of God, savoring and loving the word of God.
