Its a simple contrast really. Christianity is the whole-hearted belief in and following of The Infallible Word of God and the being lead by the Holy Spirit in everything you do and not letting ritual and tradition dictate anything. To be a Christian is to follow Christ no matter where He takes us. We are His fellow laborers and have to be willing to go where He wants to take us and not be held down by the regulation and burden brought on by repetitive ritual and misunderstood Biblical principle like that making up much the catholic doctrine. God Bless
When we choose to sincerely commit our lives to Christ, we also become joint heirs with Him as it says in scripture, ultimately blatantly showing that we are here for more than “Mass” and charity. We are here to win a generation to Christ through the spreading of the Gospel of The ONLY Mediator between God and man, The One pierced for our iniquities, bruised for our transgressions, and who chose to save rebellious beings like us to redeem and save from eternal separation from our Father in Heaven. Bottom line, God wants a personal and intimate relationship with each and everybody, and you KNOW if you have that and arguing doctrine is not worth it. Im just spreading the ABSOLUTE TRUTH inspired by the reading of The Word of God. HE knows your heart. I dont. You dictate whether or not God is real in your life or if tedious and repetitive ritual and the praying to a false mediator is all you need.
God Bless You

God bless you too! Thank you for your post. It’s like a breath of fresh air on this forum!

There would be No Christianity Without Catholicism

Acts Of Apostles 11

26 And they conversed there in the church a whole year; and they taught a great multitude, so that at Antioch the disciples were first named Christians

Its the other way around there young man. Valid attempt though sir.
Catholicism professes to be fundamentally based on the Bible (The Word of God that Christians choose to live their life according to as a result of the conviction of the Holy Spirit and the passion to know more about a God whose mercies are new every day and whose grace extends to call them friend) whereas catholic doctrine is made up of misunderstood Old Testament principle and ritual and tradition that contradicts multiple passages of scripture. God Bless…Im done arguing.

Got any particular misunderstood Old Testament principle, ritual or tradition you’d like to cite here, or you just gonna sling wild accusations and split?

You must mean differentiating Catholicism and Protestantism, since Catholics are Christians. But to answer your post:
Christianity is the whole-hearted belief in and following of The Infallible Word of God and the being lead by the Holy Spirit in everything you do and not letting ritual and tradition dictate anything.
This is funny, since Jesus followed Jewish ritual and tradition perfectly; His beef with the Pharisees is the actually the corruption of these traditions for their own benefit.
When we choose to sincerely commit our lives to Christ, we also become joint heirs with Him as it says in scripture, ultimately blatantly showing that we are here for more than “Mass” and charity.
In case you failed to notice, Mass is being with Him in celebration of His redemptive work–the passion, death and resurrection of our Lord is displayed in all its splendor in the Mass. As heirs to Him then, we are called as well to be charitable to our fellowmen; that is, our calling is to love one another, and to do so would be to obey the will of God.

You use the same method of discernment that mormons use for the BOM - just read it and you will become invincibly impeccable- No one in the Bible got The Holy Spirit from reading it - It did not exist

You dictate whether or not God is real in your life or if tedious and repetitive ritual and the praying to a false mediator is all you need.
God Bless You
We Catholics do not pray to a false mediator. We pray to God.

you cannot seperate christianity from Catholocism, you should infact thank the Catholic Church for the bible in your hands, you should thank the Catholic Church that christianity has survived through the centuries, You should finally thank the Catholic Church for if it wasn’t for the Catholic CHurch, you’d probabaly be pagan. I will tell the Vatican to keep an eye out for your thank you letter in the mail.

How can anyone distinguish between Christians and Catholics… catholics are Christians… have been for about 2000 years. The 25,000 (and more) protestant sects that exist today did not even exist until at least the 1500. Seems to me that a group that constantly splinters into smaller and smaller groups is not doing something right at all.
You dictate whether or not God is real in your life or if tedious and repetitive ritual and the praying to a false mediator is all you need.
So it seems that you have come here to tell us Catholics what we believe and do. From your posts it is evident that you have no clue. So please refrain from telling us what we believe.
“Repetitive Ritual? Really, please list these things that you call repetitive rituals.
“Praying to a false mediator?” Hm I pray to Jesus/God. Don’t you? Why do you consider Him a false mediator?

hola,

Christianity is a label from non Christians in the early years that was put on the collective beliefs surrounding the ministry of Jesus Christ…

today i think it is used in much the same way, it describes an indescript collection of beliefs… ‘Christians’ are the people that belief in these things in one way or another.

versus

‘the Catholic Church’ which is a label from Jesus Christ on the occasion of the founding of the Church on St. Peter. the label describes the ‘tillage’ ‘sheepfold’ ‘building’ and ‘bride’ of Christ, which is the community he leads and nourishes directly.

so

the religion and beliefs (from an outsiders perspective) are Christianity, correct assent to Christian beliefs will lead you into the Church which is the actual ‘sheepfold’ created and lead by Christ.

During the first century, the Jews disagreed as to what constituted the canon of Scripture. In fact, there were a large number of different canons in use, including the growing canon used by Christians. In order to combat the spreading Christian cult, rabbis met at the city of Jamnia or Javneh in A.D. 90 to determine which books were truly the Word of God. They pronounced many books, including the Gospels, to be unfit as scriptures. This canon also excluded seven books (Baruch, Sirach, 1 and 2 Maccabees, Tobit, Judith, and the Wisdom of Solomon, plus portions of Esther and Daniel) that Christians considered part of the Old Testament.

The group of Jews which met at Javneh became the dominant group for later Jewish history, and today most Jews accept the canon of Javneh. However, some Jews, such as those from Ethiopia, follow a different canon which is identical to the Catholic Old Testament and includes the seven deuterocanonical books (cf. Encyclopedia Judaica, vol. 6, p. 1147).

Needless to say, the Church disregarded the results of Javneh. First, a Jewish council after the time of Christ is not binding on the followers of Christ. Second, Javneh rejected precisely those documents which are foundational for the Christian Church—the Gospels and the other documents of the New Testament. Third, by rejecting the deuterocanonicals, Javneh rejected books which had been used by Jesus and the apostles and which were in the edition of the Bible that the apostles used in everyday life—the Septuagint

Jesus believed them to be correct then we should be using them. Surely if He would have said something if there were not scripture.

No ritual? No tradition? What about these passages, then?

1 Corinthians 14:40—“Let all things be done decently and in order.”

1 Corinthians 11:2—“Now I praise you, brethren, that you remember me in all things and keep the traditions just as I delivered them to you.”

2 Thessalonians 2:15—"Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle."

2 Thessalonians 3:6—“Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us.”
and not be held down by the regulation and burden brought on by repetitive ritual and misunderstood Biblical principle like that making up much the catholic doctrine.
And which Catholic doctrines are based, in your opinion, on “misunderstood Biblical principles”?

Not that it matters, because the Catholic Church does not adhere to Luther’s concept of “sola scriptura”. As it says in 2 Thess. 2:15 above, “by word (oral instruction) or epistle (Holy Scripture”. Both have equal weight. Both are infallible. Both are the Word of God. The only difference is, one of them is written down, the other is not.

True, there is only one Mediator.

However, there can be any number of intercessors.
You dictate whether or not God is real in your life or if tedious and repetitive ritual
Ritual is not tedious if you understand what it’s all about. As for repition, even Jesus Himself prayed the same prayers over and over, using the same words, in the Garden of Gethsemane:

Matthew 26:44—"And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words."
and the praying to a false mediator is all you need.
There is one Mediator, but there can be any number of intercessors.

Besides, nobody said that’s “all we need”. That’s your idea about us, not ours.
Catholicism professes to be fundamentally based on the Bible
Only half correct. Catholicism is based on Apostolic Tradition (the oral word of God) and Holy Scripture (the written word of God), both of which are interpreted for us by the Sacred Magesterium, which is led by the Holy Spirit.
whereas catholic doctrine is made up of misunderstood Old Testament principle and ritual and tradition that contradicts multiple passages of scripture.
There is not one Catholic doctrine anywhere that contradicts Holy Scripture.

They do, however, contradict the Protestant interpretation of Scripture.
God Bless…Im done arguing.
I wasn’t aware that this was an argument to begin with, but okay. 🙂

Your comment appears to mean that your only purpose in posting was to enlighten us poor deluded Catholics with your version of Ultimate Scriptural Truth. While I’m sure we appreciate your concern for our lost souls, I would also hasten to remind you that your version of what you think it takes to be saved is by no means universal; we were leading people to Christ for 1500 years before Protestanism even came into exitance, you know. 🙂

Catholicism is Christianity. Catholicism describe the universal church of Christianity. The first Christians are Catholics, and the word Catholic was first term by St. Ignatius of Antioch around 107-110 A.D.

Eastern Orthodoxy didn’t exist before then until 1054 and in 1517 we have Protestant Christians. Christianity has its beginnings with Catholicism.
