Hello friends,

It’s been very hard for me the last month or so, for a plethora of reasons, but I managed to pull through by God’s grace.

During the past week, I’ve felt spiritually drained to say the least, even angry and spiteful towards God. I stopped praying the Rosary and I began to have a hostile atitude towards everything pertaining to faith matters. I feel completely burnt out - “I want off this ride”, to use internet lingo - and somewhat miss my previous and relatively carefree non-religious existance.

I guess most of my frustration, at least initially, was derived from the realization that about 2-3 weeks ago I made two invalid Confessions by withholding sins. I mentioned both the omitted sins and the omission itself in subsequent Confessions, but the priests didn’t alert me that I was obliged to repeat the enitre Confession once more. While preparing a full confession, I began to feel overwhelmed and exasperated and decided that enough is enough and I’m going to take a break from all this, at least for a while. I also had the feeling that my (majority non-Catholic) nationality might constitute an obstacle to finding a spiritual advisor to coach me through this sort of issues, and much of the time I feel like an outsider within the very faith I grew up in.

I’m slowly beginning to come to my senses, and wish to make a good Confession soon.

At this moment, I have several prayer intentions, and if any of you can spare a prayer for my spiritual and physical health, as well as for some of the people in my life, it would be deeply appreciated. I’m also waiting for some test results in two days and feel particularly anxious about that.

Many thanks and God bless!

Praying to the Holy Spirit to give you guidance & direction in your time of need. Praying for your intentions.

You do not need to confess sins more than once. If you have found that you forgot to mention some sins in your last confession, simply bring those sins up in the next confession. If they were venial sins, communion and an Act of Contrition in more than enough. You do not even need to go to confession for those.

If you are concerned or scrupulous about forgetting to tell things in your confession, while you are undergoing the sacrament and listing your sins, simply end with “For these and all the sins of my life, especially those I have forgotten, I am most heartily sorry.”

The evil one wants to discourage you from having a relationship with God, so he will point out all sorts of things that sound reasonable at first, but ultimately lead to isolation from God. God does not mind if you pray to Him how angry you feel. At least you are keeping up a dialogue with Him. Don’t ever be afraid to tell Him that something is ticking you off. He can help you work through it and find inner peace again.

For your intentions:

Our Father…
Hail Mary…
Glory be…

Prayer for the Gifts of the Holy Spirit
Code:
Holy Spirit, divine Consoler, we adore You as our true God, with God the Father and God the Son. We adore You and unite ourselves to the adoration You receive from the angels and saints.

We give You our hearts and we offer our ardent thanksgiving for all the grace which You never cease to bestow on us.

O Giver of all supernatural gifts, who filled the soul of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, with such immense favors, we beg You to visit us with Your grace and Your love and to grant us the gift of holy fear, so that it may act on us as a check to prevent us from falling back into our past sins, for which we beg pardon.

Grant us the gift of piety, so that we may serve You for the future with increased fervor, follow with more promptness Your holy inspirations, and observe your divine precepts with greater fidelity.

Grant us the gift of knowledge, so that we may know the things of God and, enlightened by Your holy teaching, may walk, without deviation, in the path of eternal salvation.

Grant us the gift of fortitude, so that we may overcome courageously all the assaults of the devil, and all the dangers of this world, which threaten the salvation of our souls.

Grant us the gift of counsel, so that we may choose what is more conducive to our spiritual advancement and may discover the wiles and snares of the tempter.

Grant us the gift of understanding, so that we may apprehend the divine mysteries and by contemplation of heavenly things detach our thoughts and affections from the vain things of this miserable world.

Grant us the gift of wisdom, so that we may rightly direct all our actions, referring them to God as our last end; so that, having loved Him and served Him in this life, we may have the happiness of possessing Him eternally in the next. Amen.

This is correct. Give it all to God, ALL of it. I know it is hard to let go of everything, but believe me, He can help you with that part too, all He needs to hear from you is your desire to let Him in.
In my case I had to be pretty broken before I could ‘just ask’ . I believe it may be that way for many others.

Rather than walking away from Him, just ask Him, from the heart, for His help. What happens next may shock you, it did me. God is truly there, it is not some fairy tale.
Some days I have to pinch myself to realize I was not dreaming that day back in 2005.
The overwhelming sense of joy I had when I made my poor, feeble effort to let God have control of my life can be described in one word, the feeling I had back then is still with me every hour of every day : F R E E D O M !!!

You mention just getting away from all this for a while, yes, satan would like that, don’t listen to him.

Our Father…
Hail Mary…
Glory Be…

I have been feeling oppressed and burned out too. Remember, that there is an evil one. He doesn’t want you to succeed and will make things hard for you. Jesus said “in this world you will have trouble, but take heart for I have overcome the world.”

The evil one “toys” with us sometimes but thanks be to God, you are returning. It would be good for you to go to only one spiritual confessor so that he can help you work through some of your problems. You have my prayers for your intentions and spiritual health. Stay close to the sacraments and do not loose hope, you are greatly loved by our Lord. Remember that being a Christian isn’t the easiest but the most rewarding both in this life and for eternity! Sometimes we need help along the way when carrying a heavy cross though.

My love and prayers in Christ,
mlz

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

†

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

†

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

I am deeply touched by your prayers and kind advice.

I am sorry for the poor choice of words in my previous message. I meant to say that I withheld sins, not that I forgot to say them. The reasons are ridiculous in retrospect and, like I said, I did confess them subsequently, along with the fact that I had withheld them. However, I was not aware at the time that the entire Confession had been rendered invalid by this, nor did these other priests bring it to my attention.

I don’t remember precisely what sins I had confessed each time that I now need to repeat (these two particular confessions were during a week when I went every other day to Confession and I also made an effort to confess past sins that I didn’t manage to mention previously). At the parish I attend, the average Confession time is about 5 minutes, so it will be a challenge to squeeze it all in if I can’t schedule a Confession.

I will try to find someone I can see on a regular basis for guidance, however, the next few days I’ll be swamped with work and doctor’s appointments so I don’t know how soon I can manage to do this.

I still haven’t prayed my Rosary today and feel disappointed about my estrangement and lukewarmness. I hope God will give me the grace to resume my prayer life, and have mercy on me to grant me good health and strength to carry on, if nothing else.

Thank you once again for your continued prayers and warm words. God bless you all!

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession, was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy, hear and answer me. Amen
