Difficulties receiving on the tongue

sounds like your whole parish, including and especially the EMHCs need a refresher course because that is not what even the “new and improved Mass” people envision with the communion procession. The fact remains that kneeling at the rail which was positioned for that purpose automatically put the priest and communicant at the proper relation for reverent COTT. Trying to do it standing, depending on the logistics in your parish make it far more difficult, and when the EMHCs experience only a small number of people communicating this way, they don’t get much chance to practice this skill and it is a skill.

I have been to another parish in the area where the Communion lines move even faster and there used to be one priest in particular who distributed Communion extremely fast, without looking up, saying “Body of Christ Body of Christ Body of Christ” like that with hardly a pause between. He didn’t hold the Host up in front of the communicants, or wait for them to say “Amen.”

Anyway, since you all pointed it out to me, I noticed that while a number of people at my parish do receive on the tongue, they all receive from the priest. I received from the priest today and it went perfectly. 🙂

You’re right. But speed shouldn’t take precedence over the care taken to prevent the unneeded discarding of communion fragments.
