I’m currently going to a protestant but thanks to this site and a few catholic friends I have decided I want to convert to Catholicism. My mom will not let me go to a Catholic church but I also heard that it is an obligation for Catholics to go to mass on Sunday. Saturday isn’t an option either since my mom wouldnt let me out probably. What should I do? Can I fulfill the Sunday obligation by going on Thursday or any other day? Also yes I know i’m skipping a few steps by asking about this but it is an issue that has me worried and I want to know what my next course of action should be.

Your post leaves out a few important details, such as your age. You are bound by your conscience to do what is morally correct.

Jesus says plainly that His word would divide families, there you go, case closed.

Paragraph 1735 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church identifies duress as a mitigating circumstance that reduces the culpability for “grave matter.”

One aspect of Christian living is suffering, which is obviously the case here.

Conversion to Catholism is a somewhat prolonged process. The classes called RCIA take months. So there is a extended period of conversion. Even attending a weekday Mass would be part of that transition to joining the Church.

Hi,

You’re not canonically obligated to go to Mass until you actually become Catholic (a person is usually received into the Church on Easter weekend). Attending on a Thursday wouldn’t fulfill the Holy Day of Obligation but you’re not obligated until you are Catholic.

If you’re a minor, you should obey your parents wishes until you turn 18 and become an independent. Then you can pursue your religious affiliation freely.

Peace.

As the above two posters have answered:
  1. You are not yet Catholic so you are not bound to Mass attendance.
  2. You are a minor and must obey your parents until such time you are an adult.

You aren’t a Catholic. You don’t have an obligation to attend Mass.
My mom will not let me go to a Catholic church
Respect your mother and when you are an adult you can pursue inquiring into the Catholic Faith.
