Intelligent design is not the primary issue with free will, omniscience is. If the creator knows the outcome before creating, there can be no free will…merely actors on a preconceived stage.
If the creator has no knowledge of the outcome, then free will can thrive…as it does.

That is correct argument for deist God. There is no before for theist God.
