Hi everyone,

My brother really wants to get paid for a gig (this is his first paying job). Now the problem is, in true Californian spirit, it’s at a transsexual wo/men’s “wedding”. I’m not sure what to say. My mom is worried that this is actually a ‘date’, since there’s no rehearsal and they don’t know what to play.

While I’m not his parent, I’d like to know if my mom should let him do it, in case she asks me what I think.

Simple answer: no.

I know times are tough and it’s hard to turn down a paying job, but I wouldn’t go for this one 🤷

My answer would be “No,” since even if it’s called a wedding, it is not; and it is offensive to God. We will see much more of this as matters intensify and some of us do not back down in not recognizing these “marriages”. Your brother has to think of the children who are influenced by their surroundings, as well.

Thank you all for your responses.

I do want to mention that the rest of my family is not Catholic, which is a little bit of a problem. My brother supports civil same sex “marriage”, unfortunately. I take some of the blame for this, since I said some uncharitable things that turned him away from the Catholic Church (pray for me and him):o, but I don’t know what to say.

I can’t really do anything about this, and I’m not sure what to do if anything.

Thanks again for your helpful advice,
Benedicat Deus,
Latinitas

If you cannot influence him, just stay out of it and let your parents and him deal with it. As his sister, you have no authority over him, so the best thing you can do is to continue to pray for him and the rest of your family.

If she asks, tell her what you actually think.

One thing to consider: how did this gig come about? Do they have some sort of advertisement out offering their services for weddings? If so, turning this gig down because of the orientation of the clients could violate anti-discrimination laws, so be aware of that.

Ask yourself what Jesus would say? Of course, he would say no. God bless you.
