Hey everyone, I was hoping you all could help me with a dilemna i have. just for some background im a 16 year old male, and have a somwhat scrupulous conscience.(you mightn be infering that from some of my questions)

So here it goes, recently i met this girl, and she and I got to talking a bit, it was pretty much her helping me with some problems I had, and me just talking about them and other stuff on my mind. But the thing is she has a boyfriend, and I just have some questions about this.

Like is it improper for me to be friends with her and talk to her if she has a boyfriend? I like to talking to her, and she really helps me out with some of the problems/ things going on in my life.

I do like her, but I dont want to potentially sin by getting between her and her boyfriend, and im dead set on not doing that. Im not sure what sin i would be commiting, i just get anxious over this.

Im not sure on the ettiquette involved in situations like this, and was hoping you all could help me out with this.

Why would it be a sin to talk to her if she has a boyfriend? There is no sin in that. It’s ok to talk to anyone as long as you aren’t talking to them out of some malicious intention. You’re intentions are benevolent.

No, it’s not at all a bad thing for you have. I had a crush on a friend’s girlfriend (who is also a good friend of mine). They are still going out, and it’s fine. I don’t think either of them knew or ever will. She’s just a really charming girl. It’s okay to like people, it’s natural, with all of our hormones and all that, and I’m pretty sure God wants us to like members of the opposite sex. So just don’t make a big deal about it. There’ll probably be someone else who you develop a crush for later. (The world’s an awful place, isn’t it?) Don’t fret. Do pray.

BTW, I’ve been meaning to PM you, but things in my life are hectic right now. (Floods, weddings, AP tests, etc) So expect something (fairly) soon.

My question about this is- why is she bringing her personal problems to you and not her boyfriend?

In fact you need to ask her that, and depending on her answer, go from there. But no, I don’t think its sinful to be friends with her.

Aaron, dear, please relax, unless of course her BF has threatened to puch out your lights or some such. Then, he’s the one with the problem.

I would take Guy’s advice (and it is so good you are here, Guy, for no other reason than to handle all the young fellas who think we old ladies are nutty).

Actually, so far its mostly been the other way around, her helping me. Her boyfriend lives in a different state, and I believe he is currently unable to be in contact with her.

Then he isn’t much of a boyfriend now is he? Long distance relationships at 16…

My suggestion, just be friends, that is all you really need to worry about right now anyway. It’s many years before you need to worry about marraige so just have fun. Who know having a real friend rather than a phantom boyfriend might be what she needs? or it might not be.

Either way look at it as that you gained a friend who you can talk to, regardless of what sex they are. That’s a pretty good thing, don’t fret about a boyfriend IMHO but don’t dog him out either. If things don’t work out for them, don’t you be the cause. Just be a friend 🙂 If things don’t work out and you have nothing to do with in at a later date, then you might pursue a different relationship but being the cause of a breakup is never a good idea… IMHO of course.
