I really don’t understand all the angst here. If you were vegetarian or allergic to nuts or had some other issue related to what you ate, wouldn’t you just tell your host and trust that your needs would be taken into consideration with the meal? Why is it any different in saying “I don’t eat meat on Fridays” and trusting that will also be taken into consideration when your host plans the meal?

I found this on the EWTN website:

" Those who are excused from fast or abstinence Besides those outside the age limits, those of unsound mind, the sick, the frail, pregnant or nursing women according to need for meat or nourishment, manual laborers according to need, guests at a meal who cannot excuse themselves without giving great offense or causing enmity and other situations of moral or physical impossibility to observe the penitential discipline."

Is this what you were referring to, msugeotech?
COOL. I was nursing when I ate that hot dog back in 2003 at Queen Beatrix Airport in Aruba! That means I was OK!!! Alright, I would have eaten it anyway–but I was still nursing a 19 mo old who flatly refused to wean.
