Fruit is always a good choice, or you could buy some Biscotti at the local bakery or grocery store, which is yunmmy with coffee.šŸ™‚
I second this, or even those Pirolines (sp?). It’s amazing how well either of those go with coffee (or ice cream) for a simple and elegant dessert. Depending on your company, they will also be surprised, as both of thosre typically fall in the ā€œseen but never thought to buy for myselfā€ category.

Oh yes! I love them, especially the Hazelnut ones:extrahappy: !!

Oh Pirouettes! Mmmm, tasty! That may be the best plan. Thanks a bunch. Like you say I love 'em but don’t think about buying them.

And Luciana, agreed šŸ™‚

Oh what a yummy pie. 😃
But you are correct. Fruit is not much of a dessert. Fruit also can be more expensive then a cake or pie. If you want to do both - get some angel food cake, frozen strawberries and whipped cream.
It’s light and sweet and satisfies most people.
Another dessert made with strawberries and angel food cake is to take a 12 oz. carton of Cool Whip (use the lite kind), 2 containers of strawberry yogurt (you can use the lite yogurt) and mix them together. Then mix in some cut up fresh strawberries. Then cut up an angel food cake into pieces and mix that in. Put it all in a pretty dish, smooth out the top, and decorate with fresh strawberries. A very pretty, tasty, low-fat, low cal dessert.

Okay, here’s how it went!

Two of the girls didn’t show (actually, one of them didn’t know until TODAY that she was invited! I thought someone was going to tell her! so she had classes) so it was my roommate and I and two others.

Here’s the menu: Bruschetta, some with goat cheese and sundried tomatoes and basil, some with oil, sea salt and rosemary;

Caesar salad;

warmed-over lasagna with extra sauce on top (it wasn’t quite warm enought, but still tasty);

French press coffee & chicory with Piroulines (they are called that, I just didn’t know until now).

The best part? My roommate is doing the dishes! šŸ‘ Thanks for the advice, everyone!

Are there any leftovers? Could you send some our way? That Bruschetta sounds good!

mmmm, love the bruschetta. Sometimes I have just that for dinner.

Nice job!!! Ihaven’t had breakfast yet, not even coffee, but that sounds pretty tasty!!

Man! It’s amazing how a little of the current ā€œfashion foodā€ will do to kick up the tone of a dinner. Good going with the bruschetta! I think I’ll try that this weekend. A friend of ours is just home from rehab after breaking a hip and we’re doing ā€œmeals on wheelsā€ for her and her husband. They’ll like the bruschetta!

Impressive meal. When I was in college - we would just serve up Ragu. That was considered top shelf. 😃

Good job:thumbsup: ! The menu sounds perfectly delicious! I guess you won’t need our advice anymore;) 😃

Well, we all had a semester at Rome where fruit was all we got for dessert except Sundays and holidays, so I think everyone is used to it (all girls, yes). I’m not thinking of ā€œhere, have an appleā€ but artistic strawberries or the like. (Very vague and a bit pompous! I mean ā€œI’ll see what i can find that is tasty, and make it look pretty too.ā€) I don’t really want to buy a cake, it goes against my principles (they are not against cake, but against buying something you could make yourself and it would be fresher and have fewer preservatives and also cheaper and more entertaining). But if someone has a recipe for a cake that’s not too rich and maybe 1 layer I could do that.

Sure, I’ll take your minestrone recipe, Dulcissima… I was thinking I might get in the habit of lasagna-making šŸ™‚
Every one loves strawberry shortcake! Just take your normal biscuit recipe, add about a half a cup of sugar (more if you’re like me! šŸ˜‰ ), and dump the whole thing into a greased round cake pan, or square pyrex… bake at about 450 for 10 mins, then keep checking it. Sprinkle sugar over the top if you like before you bake it… that’s yummy! Then serve warm if possible with the strawberries that have been sliced and sugared and refrigerated, and either buy whipped topping or make it yourself… It will take at least a couple pounds of strawberries to satisfy all y’all though, prolly.

ETA: oops! late to the thread… sounds like it went great! šŸ‘
