Some people believe dinosaurs died off during the flood of Noah. I happen to believe they existed prior to mankind and that the earth is older than 6,000 years old, just wanted various opinions on this subject. I don’t see how dinosaurs and man could have co-existed.

People who need to believe that every word in the Bible is literally true have to believe this, or they have to deny the reality of the fossil record (some do, they claim that when God created the earth He included buried fossils that appear to be phenomenally old, with the carbon-dating faked and everything. Obviously God who is omnipotent COULD have done such a thing, but that begs the question WHY He would do such a thing since it would have been a deliberate deception of His creatures and we also believe that He is all-good and there is no falsehood in Him.)

Catholics are not fundamentalists and are not required to hold a literal interpretation of the Bible (even though there are some frequent posters here who will tell you different). So you don’t have to try and figure out how this could possibly have been, nor do you have to abandon your faith to accomodate it.

I believe that man and dinosaurs co-existed, that they lived in the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve and all of the other animals. (Everything on earth ate only plants back then) Then Noah took two of each kind of animal not every species on to the Ark.

Now, I do also believe that many of the dinosaurs have become extinct but I don’t think it is in such a way as is taught by school text books. I think they lived with man but we knew them by a different name, Dragons. The word Dinosaur was only made during the mid 19th century.

I agree that most Dinosaurs are now extinct and probably because people killed them off. For example I live in the UK, hundreds of years ago we had wolves here. Now there is not a single one left because people killed them, nobody wants to live next to a pack of wolves. I think they same thing happened to Dinosaurs. They feature right through history in mythology, art and culture.

You may have noticed I have said that most Dinosaurs are now extinct, yes feel free to scoff but I think there are some dinosaurs that still exist. I’m not takling about crocodiles and komodo dragons I am talking mainly of the Brachiosaurus, Plesiosaurus, Pterodactyl and there have been thousands of sightings of a Stegosaurus type creature in Africa but mainly those few are the ones that are still sighted today.

If you saw what you believed to be a Dinosaur would you go around shouting about it? People would think you were nuts which is a main problem of why more pople do not know about these creatures.

Here is a link to a video of a Seminar on Dinosaurs and the Bible by Dr. Kent Hovind, an Evangelical. It is a very long video but well worth watching. He will go through documented sightings and evidence for the enduring existence of Dinosaurs and I hope you do watch it because it is essential that this message gets out.

They didn’t. But I’ll bet you a donut that someone will post on this thread telling you that indeed they did and that there are dinosaur footprints found alongside human footprints in Texas or that there are carvings depicting dinosaurs in Thailand or that dinosaurs are mentioned in the bible. None of which is true, but, again, I’ll bet you a donut that they will be posted.

Man evolved 400000 to 250000 years ago and dinosaurs lived 250 to 65 million years ago. Hence they could not have co-existed.

Well I believe that Earth is roughly 6000 years and believe Genesis since Adam named all the animals. So dinosaurs lived during the time of Adam and Eve

Since God is Truth Himself (“I am the way, the truth, and the life”) and Reason Himself (logos means both Word and Reason), and since the processes which form the Earth pretty clearly took longer than 6000 years, you are proposing that Truth Himself, Reason Himself, created the world in a manner not consistent with the truth and reason shown in those natural processes He created. You are proposing, in fact, that the Earth is an elaborate, quickly created mockup or simulation of a real planet, as formed millions and millions of years ago in a universe zillions of years old.

I believe in the universe and planet created by God through both ex nihilo Creation and the natural laws He put in place. Wisdom 11:21 is one of the great science verses – “…but thou hast ordered all things in measure, and number, and weight.” That faith that God’s works were capable of being reasoned out, and that He did not lie to us in any of His works, is what allowed real science to begin in the first place. The ancient Greeks couldn’t really believe it, not most people. Experimental science really began as a Catholic thing. And it was one of the first great experimental scientists, St. Albert the Great, who taught St. Thomas Aquinas. He also successfully defended the notion that all truth belonged to God, and that there wasn’t one truth for religious purposes and another for scientific.

So it’s silly and ungrateful for us to create false distinctions between science and religion that the Catholic faith expressly has worked to stamp out.

But of course, even the earliest Christians were adamant that Christians should be familiar with the real facts of natural science. If we are to worship the Creator and praise His works, we have to examine His works and not our imaginary versions thereof. To do so is to reject the Creator’s works as not good enough, and hence the Creator. (And as one of the Fathers of the Church pointed out in early Christian days, lack of nature knowledge also makes Christianity look silly to those we are supposed to be converting.)

You lose :D- send me the money --------

this has yet to be explained.

Soft tissue isn’t supposed to last this long.

First dino ‘blood’ extracted from ancient bone

…Many critics of the earlier work are acknowledging the substantial nature of the new research. Service writes:“Both groups then independently performed biochemical and antibody-binding studies that showed evidence of collagen as well as laminin and elastin, two proteins found in blood vessels.”
[McIntosh, a critic of the earlier work, is quoted as saying:] “I’m not saying it’s true. But I cannot right now make a plausible argument that it’s not true.” He adds: “The door is closing on plausible alternatives.”

I must say, for a Church that claims to believe in the Bible, there seems to be a tremendous lack of belief in this thread! That the “Church” gives you the freedom to not believe, I think, says a great deal about the “Church” (which is part of the reason I left many years ago). It is very telling that you would believe Darwin over Moses. Evolution is a great lie! Consider this – Darwin’s Galapagos Finches, many varieties, habitats, diets, beaks, mating habits, etc…, yet they are still Finches! This does not demonstrate evolution, but adaptation within a species. Next time you watch a program on Nature, notice every time they use the word “evolution” or “evolved”, and rethink the statement, but substitute the word “adaptation” or “adapted” and see if the comments don’t make at least as much sense.

Let’s see what the Bible says –
Gen 1:1 - In the beginning God created heaven, and earth. (Douay Rheims)
We don’t know how long this period was. We don’t know when God created the angels, when Lucifer rebelled and took a third of the angels with him, or what happened before Gen 1:2.
Gen 1:2 - And the earth was void and empty, and darkness was upon the face of the deep; and the spirit of God moved over the waters. (Douay Rheims)
How long was the earth covered in darkness? Why was it covered in darkness? Notice, the darkness was “upon the face of the deep; and the spirit of God moved over the waters”. The perspective is from sea level on earth.
Gen 1:3 - And God said: Be light made. And light was made. (Douay Rheims)
This is where God begins His creation of life on earth (as we know it). Could there have been life on earth before this? Why not? Could earth have once been a place where dinosaurs roamed? Why not? There is no reason to think that there isn’t life on other planets (personally, I think earth is “quarantined” from the rest of creation because of sin). Did man and dinosaurs live together? Probably not. The point of Genesis is not to give us a detailed report on what God has been doing with the physical universe, but it IS a record of OUR (human) beginnings. Supposedly, the dinosaurs were killed off by a comet or meteor strike (wouldn’t it be funny if they died off because they all decided to live a homosexual lifestyle?). There is evidence of the comet (or meteor) strike (no evidence for the “lifestyle” theory, but that would cause any species to go extinct within a single generation).

So, which came first, the chicken or the egg? When God created chickens, did He make a nest and create a fertilized egg to place in the nest, then keep it warm and safe until it hatched? I would suggest the scriptures indicate that when God create all living things He created them fully mature and fully capable of reproducing. We almost always see Adam and Eve depicted as young adults, and this could be true (from a biological perspective), even though their chronological age is different. Since God created all life as mature individuals, why is it difficult to believe that He couldn’t (or wouldn’t) also create the earth, sun, moon, stars, etc… as fully functioning? I don’t have a problem believing the “Big Bang” could have happened (as I mentioned, we don’t know how much time passed between Gen 1:1 and Gen 1:2), as well as the literal 6 days of creation as outlined in Gen 1:2-31. There is no contradiction!

When I was a little girl I learned that humans interacted with dinosaurs quite frequently. Humans were even able to domesticate dinosaurs and use them to carry out tasks. A brontosaurus makes a very good crane, and a pterodactyl makes a very good airplane. Smaller dinosaurs were used as household appliances like lawnmowers and can openers.

Cavemen would often call out to their wives in this fashion, “WIIIILLLLMMMAAA!!!”

(sorry…Flinstones fan:D)

“Dr.” Kent Hovind is on the very fringe even for Young Earth Creationists. Many (more or less) reputable YEC organizations don’t want to have anything to do with him. For example:

kent-hovind.com/aig_debunk.htm

His academic credentials have been brought into serious question. For example:

kent-hovind.com/doctor/index.htm

Hovind is currently serving a 10 year prison sentence for income tax evasion.

He is not a credible source.

Amen and Amen!

In my experience, ultra-fundamentalism (whether found in Catholics or Protestants) is essentially the flip side of the coin from the liberal ultra-deconstructionists. Both positions require the forcing of God into a box of human understanding.
