Hello,

In the Old Testament “Genesis” it reads that God created man on in his image on the 6th day and this man was Adam. My qustion is this: Where did Neanderthals come from? Were they before or after Adam and where is this in the Bible? Also, Where are Dinosaur’s mentioned in the Bible? Please help me understand as I need to expalain this to my kids.

Thank you and I look forward to you response.

Genesis can be viewed as an allegorical story. As such, the order of things is correct in the creation stories, but the actual events are not true the way we think of historical truth. I suggest reading something by Tielhard who was a Jesuit Priest and a Scientist specializing in evolution when the Church did not accept evolution. He was on the team that discovered the missing link.

The Bible doesn’t say whether or not there was a pre-Adamic race. All we know for sure is that the first two people of spiritual significance were Adam and Eve.

Even if evolution is true, there STILL had to be a first male and first female Homo sapiens.

And it’s not conclusively demonstrated either way whether or not Neaderthals were indeed Homo sapiens or a different species. There are conflicting scientific theories.

Dinosaurs are not mentioned in the Bible, as far as I can tell (certainly the term itself is not used), though some disagree, saying references to “behemoth” and “leviathan” refer to dinosaurs.

We can therefore safely infer that dinosaurs have not even tangential relevance to the spiritual story of mankind, which is ultimately what the Bible is.

Actually, it’s widely believed, and pretty much accepted, that Neanderthals were not ancestors of homo sapiens but rather a competing species. Like I said, read Tielhard.

The first thing about the days – don’t read that necessarily as 6 24 hour periods as we know them. A day means different things in different places. On Jupiter a day is only ~10 hours (I think). On Mercury, a day is longer than one of our months. Scripture tells us that a day to God is like a thousand for us – this is just a way to say that God is outside of time and a day to us isn’t the same as a day to Him.

The second thing about where the Bible mentions it – the Bible doesn’t mention everything in minute detail. Where does it mention strawberries or ants or igaunas – do those creatures not exist?

Or the fact that the Bible is about the salvation history of the dinosaurs?

Because in genesis the was creation( made from nothing) and then there is the creation ( remade; reshaped; made new again)…

yes, creation #1 is quadtrillion and drillions of years old (understanding times as we experience it. But creation #2 is just about 6009 years old.

Man was not just made from nothing. God made man from dirt- the dirt that had been remade. And then man was placed in the garden.

One day, the earth will be made new again.

I find no problem with reading Scripture as absolutly the real story.
