In British society, too.
I’m sorry to hear that. I wish I knew how to fight it effectively, but the internet seems only to have convinced anti-intellectuals that they are somehow critical thinker because they “do research” by watching youtube videos that “confirm” everything they already knew.

As a general rule, you aren’t intellectual if you never change your mind. There is nothing more anti-intellectual than mocking those who constantly refine their views with more and better evidence. We, of course, see evidence of that in this very thread.

It is, I believe, an insult to God to refuse to use the ability to reason that he gave us.

I see it this way.
If I’m a smoker and I hear scientists say that smoking causes cancer. I reject it because I like smoking. So I start reserching until I find some fringe scientist that says smoking does not cause cancer. He writes a long paper that i really don’t understand but looks very scientific. I conclude that I believe him because I was impressed by the complicated paper he wrote and it makes feel justified in my belief.
therefore I conclude smoking does not cause cancer.
Then i start asking people who believe smoking causes cancer to prove it.

And on and on we go…

In Britain we saw the “we’ve had enough of experts” trope from politicians. Now we’re seeing some anti-mask and anti-vaccine people emerging in the Covid discussions. “Common Sense” that can kill you.

Very similar in the US. So tragic. So unnecessary.

None of this disproves evolution.
Japanese researchers show a bacteria with 7 flagella that spin 10 time as fast as the usual flagella without hitting each other. A gear was found that keeps them in sync. Show the evo steps to get this all to work.

This is not a biology test.

It often amazes me how creationists try to inject various biological terms and ask you to explain it.
I’m not a biologist but I do listen to what real, not fringe biologists have to say, and the say humankind evolved.
Why don’t you do all of us a favor and show us the steps and explain why it disproves evolution.

Here is one for you. What came first, the energy the cell needs or the ATP synthase motor that produces it? Show your work. Each successive step with an increase in fitness and fixing in the population.

Time to ask “the real biologists” some challenging questions. When pressed they “break for tea” or answer “as long as it is not God”.

The top evo’s know there is a big problem with super complexity and remember Darwin’s own words - “If it could be demonstrated that any complex organ existed, which could not possibly have been formed by numerous, successive, slight modifications, my theory would absolutely break down."
