In our continuing search for a midwest college that has a faithful Catholic college presence…does anyone know anything about Valparaiso University and its Newman Center, and the Diocese of Gary Indiana? Both look promising on-line. We’ll be visiting but would appreciate any knowledge you can share.

Check out Stubinville in Stubinville Ohio, it’s GREAT!! God Bless, Memaw

We love Steubenville - but it’s just too far away. Wants to stay a bit closer to home.

There is an Opus Dei retreat center in Valpo that could help you connect to a solid Catholic community in the area. I would not hesitate in sending a child to Valpo…in fact we almost did, but she’s changing her career path and needs a different choice.

The bishop of Gary is Bishop Donald Hying, a fantastic man, and very apostolic. 👍

Our oldest went to Valpo and the Newman Center there was AWESOME! Not just the center but the area parish was very supportive of “their” college students. From learning to be a lector to playing midnight kickball games in the parking lot, to doing prayer vigils at an abortion center to camping out in cardboard boxes to raise money for the homeless, there was always something going on to support her and her faith. She was the first we sent to college and we were worried, but if another of my kids were interested, I’d send them there in a heartbeat.
