Diocese of San Jose Releases Names of 15 Priests Credibly Accused of Abuse

Report Bishop McGrath has promised would be forthcoming naming 15 priests accused of abuse in the diocese.

Some are critical that it doesn’t include all abusers or lay leaders in positions of church related authority to be credibly acccused. Several of the names included though were unknown previously.

“The sexual abuse of children and young people is an appalling crime and a sin,” Bishop Patrick McGrath said in a statement Thursday naming priests accused of molesting kids.

On a personal level this list is shocking but not surprising as this was my home diocese growing up. And two of the five accused still living (but not removed completely from the priesthood) were priests at my home parish (including the pastor). Just a sad affair all around.

Statute of Limitations, dear brother, Statute of Limitations. Let’s lots of sexual criminals roam free and easy. Too many lies, by their own admission, from bishops and priest who were moved around to hide the crimes.

My outrage ? I am in a Diocese and Parish that had possibly the most heinous paedophile Priests, religious and laity to be associated with and guilty of this. We put them all on trial, and then in jail. We have a Cardinal up for trial now.
The survivors and the families are very active in my community.
We don’t do outrage, we do healing.

Take it up with the bishop. But my understanding is this is a list of abusers who either were convicted or who admitted their wrongdoing. So the whole, “but what about due process” argument falls flat here. These are 15 verified priest abusers, not just accused abusers. Hence why others have been called to, or were expected to, be on the list were not as they’ve not been convicted or admitted their abuse yet. Or were laity.
