Be Reconciled to God Weekend takes place on Friday March 20, 2009 from 7-9pm and on Saturday March 21st from 10:30am to 12:30pm and from 1:30-3:30pm in the parishes of the Diocese of Fall River.

We encourage all Catholics of the Diocese to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation on this special weekend in Lent. It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been away from this Sacrament or the Church. Please consider this your invitation to come home. Priests in every parish of the Diocese will be ready to welcome you.

This Reconciliation Weekend is occuring during the Year of St. Paul, marking the 2000th anniversary of the birth of this great convert and apostle. His words, first expressed to the Christians in Corinth, still echo powerfully through the priests of the Diocese of Fall River today.

That’s wonderful! Here in Baltimore, we have a program called, “The Light Is On For You,” which has every parish church open for confessions on Wednesday nights from 7:00 until 8:30 during Lent.

Things are looking up!

That is awesome! Our diocese could take a page from that book. We have a few centralized “Opportunities for Confession” on some weekday evenings, but it is not publicized to the general public - those that are away and might be open to an invitation to come back. I’m not even sure if the dates of the “Opportunities” were listed on the diocesean website, but that’s a whole ‘nother issue. They are well publicized in most parishes’ church bulletins and maybe a priest will even mention them.

I read about the Baltimore program in NCR and was impressed with the dedication it takes from the priests to run such a thing. I hope my diocese will run something like this every 2-3 months or so to keep people going to the sacrament.
