I have a muslim aquaintance who is a pharmacist at a local supermarket. She wears her headcovering everyday. She is a
very lovely person. We got into discussions about headcoverings.
I told her as a Traditional Catholic, I wear a head covering to Mass.
She thought that was really interesting, so we have had a few
discussions of head coverings. One day, I was wearing my head covering on the local public transit going to Mass. When I was on the bus, I had people scowling at me likely tihnking I was a muslim.
Some of the glances were outright hostile. Then, some lovely ethopian women got on the bus about 2 weeks later, they had coverings on their heads, and they looked me, and smiled at me.
They seen my 3D face of Jesus with the crown of thorns on my neck, and they smiled at me again. Others though, not so friendly.
It didn’t really bother me about others looks at me. It did make me think however that muslim women get dirty looks or scowled at
because some people are too ignorant to respect others beliefs even if they do not agree with them. I mentioned this to my muslim aquaintance, and she told me that it was not very respectful of those people to scowl at me for wearing a headcovering. We agreed that no matter what your belief is, ignorance does exist. Both of us wear head coverings, and
we both get scowled at. Some likely think to themselves, that such a practice should be allowed, and some others don’t like it, and then there are those that are neutral and don’t care eith er way. I personally am of the opinion, that if a woman no matter what her belief is, if she wants to wear a headcovering so what?
Why do certain members of society frown on a headcovering?
For some, it is comfortable, for some it is tradtional, and for some
it is part of their belief system. For me, I wear a headcovering
because it is required, and I like it, it feels right. for me, it shows respect. For those who scowl at me, go ahead, scowl
If it makes you feel good to scowl, be my guest. I wont quit wearing my headcovering.
