This Evening Mass At My Church Was Very Full.

I Am Disabled And Use A Wheelchair, Other People Can’t Walk Or Move At All. They Are Stuck In Thier Seats.

It Is Difficult And Somewhat Dangerous For Me To Wind My Way Through The Crowd When Everyone Is Up And Going To Communion. People Get Thier Toes Run Over At Times In A Crowd And Are Not Happy About It!!

So, I Have Been Asked To Stay Put And Not To Attempt Driving Around Amongst All The People.

That Was Fine With Me Before, Because Always, Until Tonight, One Of The Servers Would Come To The Back Of The Church To Check For People Like Me Who Want To Recieve Communion.

It Is Imperative That Churches Do This, So That We
Disabled, Wheelchair Bound, Mobility Challenged Types Can Recieve Communion Too.

Unfortunately, Nobody Came Back To Check And I Was Left Out In Left Field Literally. I Was Very Disappointed By This And I Don’t Know Exactly To Whom I Should Address This Problem?

I Hope It’s Not Happening In Other Churches Too?

There Needs To Be A Clear Cut Policy Concerning The Absolute Duty Of Servers To Make Sure All Who Want To Recieve Communion Get To Do So!!!

My Pastor Will Hear From Me On This Soon!!!
 
My parish has taken out two rows of pews in the front of the church. Persons who are disabled can sit there. There is a sign like in parking spaces showing this is a reserved spot. The EMHC will first walk over to persons in this area to offer them Communion before distributing Communion to the rest of the congregation. Perhaps you should talk to your pastor about having a reserved area for the disabled. Other parishes I have been to also have reserved areas. I believe all parishes should.

I will suggest that to my pastor - it should be done in all Catholic churches everywhere!!

They do this in many hospital chapels as well I’m told?

How did this go on for so long? It’s just common sense!!
 
This would be good to bring up to the attention of your Pastor, we have a space for people who have special needs to comfortable participate in the Mass and be convenient for the servers to assist them.

Long time ago the Priest would personally go visit and assist those unable to make it to Mass or we physically unable to participate. Now with Priests being scarce and many forgetting why they are Priests we need to encourage the few we have with what their job is, not for entertainment but for the Salvation of souls.

We have the same thing where I go. The first two pews are for the disabled, or people who have temporary mobility problems (casts). It has worked very well.
 
In our church not only is the first pew for the elderly and handicapped, in the middle of the church an end section of several pews is cut out to allow room for wheelchairs. This way the chair isn’t in the middle of the aisle and the person can still sit with their family.

Also, we have a ramp giving access to the altar, so those using walkers and wheelchairs are still able to assist in the Mass.
 
You’re looking at poorly trained Eucharistic Ministers (Extraordinary or otherwise). If it ever happens again, approach the priest after Mass and request Eucharist. He is bound in conscience to accommodate you.

The same is true in my Parish. We have several side pew ends and the front rows reserved for those with mobility problems. Our EMHC’s are also taught to seek out those who did not sit in those spots - we are a very large Parish and those pews fill up fast. Not only that but those in wheelchairs join the Communion line and as far as I know no one has gotten their toes rolled over or otherwise injured/bumped by the wheelchair bound.

Now of course, the person to go to in order to address what happened to the OP this past Sunday would be the Parish Priest. He may not have been aware that you were missed.

When entering the Church, ask the Usher to assist you to the best place for wheelchair access.

This would not be the EMHC’s fault. If nobody instructed them that there was a person who is in the back of the church that wishes to receive Communion and is unable to come to the front, they would have no way of knowing. The EMHC’s do not walk all around the church under usual circumstances. If anybody is to blame, it would be the ushers.

Your pastor is who you should speak with. After Mass is over and you have not received Holy Communion it is not inappropriate to find the celebrating priest and tell him you did not have the opportunity to receive because no one came to the back and that you want to receive Holy Communion. He should immediately go with you to the tabernacle and give you Holy communion.
