I know there are much more needed prayers than my intention, but I really am at a loss to understand what God is trying to tell me. The week before last on Friday, January 8th, I had an interview to be an assistant teacher at a daycare center. The interview went really well, and so I was looking forward to receiving the job offer. The interviewers said they would make a decision that afternoon and call me the following Monday, January 11th, to tell me if I got the job or not. I never heard from them all day (I even woke up really early to hear their call so I wouldn’t miss it). I decided to call them twice that afternoon and couldn’t get in touch with them. They knew I was going out of town Wednesday, so I didn’t think I had the job when I didn’t hear from them by then. Fast forward through the weekend when I returned on Sunday. I rode a plane, so I had my cell phone turned off, and forgot to turn it back on when I returned (I don’t use it that much, I guess). Today, I happened to pull my phone out of my purse to see what the charge was at (in case I needed to plug it in) and noticed it was turned off. I turned it on and checked my voicemail (which I do whenever I have my phone off for a certain length of time), and I received a surprising phone call from the daycare director telling me that they would like to extend the job offer and that I needed to come in and fill out some paperwork. Excitement and caution filled me and I wondered when she had called. I immediately called them after hearing the voicemail, but I had to wait because she was in a meeting and so I left a message for her to call me back. I called my mom with the exciting news of a possible job offer, and we were both over the moon! I thanked God and also the Blessed Virgin (who I had asked for prayers) for this opportunity. I heard back from her about 4pm, and she had to tell me that she had called on Monday (twice–although there is only one voicemail) and that the position had been filled since they needed someone to start today. My cell phone doesn’t tell me what the date and time of the message was so I had no idea. Disappointment, anger, and frustration filled my heart because it was both my fault that the cell phone was off, and hers for not calling me at home (even though my number was on my resume) or calling me last week.

I have wept so hard because of this. :bighanky: I don’t understand why this happened. So many questions are unanswered:

Why didn’t I turn my cell phone on after I got home?..
Why didn’t she call me when she said she would?..
Why did she expect me to call her back so quickly when she knew I had been gone?..
Why did God hand me a job offer when He could see that I wasn’t prepared?..
etc…

Please pray for me. It’s going to be difficult to continue my job search after this disappointment, but I need to do it. Please pray that I can somehow make sense of it all and give my frustration to God to handle so I can get on with life. 😦

Please don’t torment yourself with the “why” questions. You probably won’t get clear answer on them anyway. Simply proceed. God is with you in disappointment and setbacks as well as good surprises and good news. Hang in there and put your trust in God. Answers aren’t necessary. Simply proceed.

i second Bailey. in God’s plan and wisdom, it wasn’t meant to be. He did not will it, bless it, or allow it to go through for whatever reason… trust that He will guide you to something better, according to His will and in His time.

confess your disappointment and sorrow to the Father, trust Him, and allow Him to help you work through what you’re feeling. He loves you, cares for you, and is with you in this. He sees ahead, whereas we see only a momentary picture.

Our Father, Who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hiyas:)

Isn’t there a saying that goes something like this: ‘God never closes a window - without opening a door’

Trust Him

Our Father, Who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Amen

Ugh–how frustrating, I’m so sorry! I will hold you in my prayers that another opportunity comes your way very soon. I agree with the poster who suggests to not play a guessing game with yourself, although, easier said than done! God has a plan for you…trust in Him, and He will never let you down. God bless. :console:

Thank you all for your prayers and advice. They really helped a lot. I decided to get outside for a walk right afterward instead of letting the anger and frustration stew inside me to the point that I would make myself sick. Walking released the tension, so I am no longer upset as much. I’ve decided I’m not going to beat myself up. These things happen and I believe that God has something better in store for me that has yet to be seen. I will continue to pray for His will and allow Him to lead me.

I’m considering a volunteer job with Catholic Charities in my hometown. I’m sure they need more help since they are really involved with the Haitian relief. I plan to give them a call tomorrow. Please keep me in your prayers that everything works out for the best. God bless. 🙂

God bless you for thinking of others in your disappointment. Perhaps the other person was praying and was in the most desperate need of the job. God bless that person and their family.
I feel for you, but Lord, please ensure that our sister is in the right place at the right time for her best opportunities. Hugs.

I never thought of that, but it could be. I told the director that if it doesn’t work out, I’d like to be considered as the replacement, however, I’m not sure that I’d want it now. Not that I’m angry with them anymore, but I feel like my time could be better served in something I enjoy more than childcare. See…it all works out for the best. 😃

Praying that Jesus will give you another opportunity soon …

Hail Mary,
full of grace,
the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb,
Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Lord Jesus Christ,
I’m upset and disturbed,
and I pray that You will grant me
the grace of inner Peace.
As You commanded the storm winds at sea to be calm,
command the storms in my life to be calmed.
Give me the patience I need
to cope with the burdens and anxieties of my life.
Grant me the strength to better deal with my problems,
and the understanding to be more tolerant
and kind to others.
Teach me to seek after Your will
which alone brings peace of mind
and peace of heart.

Amen.

O my God, Thou who art the God of wisdom and of counsel,
Thou who readest in my heart the sincere will to please Thee alone,
and to govern myself with regard to my choice of a state of life,
entirely in conformity with Thy most holy desire;
grant me, by the intercession of the most blessed Virgin, my Mother,
and of my holy patrons,
especially of Saint Joseph and Saint Aloysius,
the grace to know what state I ought to choose,
and when to embrace it,
so that in it I may be able to pursue and increase Thy glory,
work out my salvation,
and merit that heavenly reward
which Thou hast promised to those who do Thy holy Will.

Amen.
