In my life I have really felt “stuck” not moving forward at all. I do truly want to do what God wants, but I am painfully aware of my own shortcomings. When I have doubts its not that I doubt God but that I doubt I my understanding of what God would be telling me or directing me.

In a different posting there was a link to an article on how to discern if God is speaking to you…I think it was fatherofmercy.com I do understand these are intended to be general broad points, but I can’t say that I completely understand all of them.
  1. The idea is in accord with Sacred Scripture as upheld by both Sacred Tradition and the Magisterium of the Church.
  2. The idea involves an element of faith, and at the same time it strengthens faith.
  3. The idea comes to you while praying.
  4. The idea fosters your personal interior and exterior charity, and at the same time it foster hope.
  5. The idea is often repeated within your intellect, while at the same time it is in accord with human reason, and it brings you great peace.
  6. The idea grows stronger within you over time.
#1, 2, 3 and 6 are clear enough for me.

I don’t know that I understand what #4 means. I understand “foster hope” but what is meant by “personal interior and exterior charity”?

I am not sure what #5 exactly means either. Repeated in your intellect - does that mean that when you think of this it just makes sense? That would go along with “being in accord with human reason”

As I am sure you are aware I am trying to “discern” something in my life so I want to understand. My “issue” probably seems small but when I read this list it does seem to fall right into line with this.

Can anyone help me understand - or give an example of what is meant by #4 and #5?

Thank you

Exterior charity can be thought of as the kindness you extend to others and the way you would be willing to excuse unintentional slights.
Interior charity would be refraining from jealous thoughts, unkind thoughts, and judgmental thoughts.
