Hey, I’m 36 years old and I only started messing with my eyebrows last year. I had not a clue on how to shape my eyebrows properly. My friends ended up giving me a gift certificate for by b-day to a nice salon that does eyebrows. They waxed them, then shaped them up a bit and they are not pencil thin. I do a little plucking in between visits now that I have a shape to work with but it’s just easier to go and get the waxing done and it’s not very expensive or anything.

Eyebrow plucking? Eeeeh. :o Maybe. I’ve seen too many people with little to no brows, and the way it grows back in looks soooo bad… I may clean up the middle, in between my brows, but nothing else. As for a dermatologist… sigh I’ve tried, I really have. Nothing works. I’ve resigned myself to my skin clearing up when it feels like it, and not a moment sooner.
When I get my hair cut, I have them wax my eyebrows at the same time. Its not as bad as it sounds, really!

After reading through what everyone has said, I think I will order a sample kit from Everyday Minerals (yes, I have been lurking in that thread :P), just to try it and see if I like it.
I think you will really love this product - it is SO easy to use, and because you are so pretty already, and are only looking to just perk yourself up a bit, it is not going to take a lot of time or skill to get it right.

Ok - time to jump right in on that thread with the rest of us crazy EM converts!!! :extrahappy:

We already have your before photo - now we need to see the after!! 🙂

pumpkinbeast - I’ve not once plucked my eyebrows…I’m a sissy when it comes to pain, so I never went near them. 😛

Pumpkin beast:

OK, so I’m not really the sort of person you want replying (I’m not make-up wearer) but I’m going to obnoxiously throw my 2 cents in, anyway. 😃

I think you should do what makes you feel comfortable. If you think that a little make-up will make you feel better about your appearance, go for it, there’s nothing wrong in that!

That said, I totally understand where you’re coming from. I was a proud non-make-up-wearer in high school as well. These days, I’m less bratty about it than I was in HS (I hope!) It’s just something I’ve never cared about enough to make the effort to find out what works for me, what I can afford, etc., and I’m comfortable with how I look without it.

(Not to mention finding the time to put it on the morning; I’m impressed with all you ladies who manage to do this! I am so not a morning person; anything that requires multiple steps or physical coordination is a recipe for disaster.)

Anyway, bottom line do what makes you comfortable!

One thing on eyebrow plucking… I don’t know if my experience is “normal” or not…
But once I initially “shaped” my eyebrows (yes, painful amount of plucking), they haven’t really wanted to go wild since. I’ll have to pluck one or two little hairs per week, but that’s just maintenance… and I’ve never waxed anything, LOL (scares me to death!)…

And as for “time and effort” for putting on makeup… I have 2 little boys (need I say anything more?)… I have about 5 minutes of private bathroom time before someone is pounding on the door wanting me to wipe their… whatever…
So it’s definitely possible in a short amount of time!.. 😉

Not to hijack but, yeah, I know things like that shouldn’t take too much time.

Things that should (& do) take me 5 minutes when fully awake take me 20 in the morning…🤷 And then aren’t done properly. I guess I’m more conscious of this than usual with Daylight Savings time messing me up…

You know you’ve had a bad morning when you come back from work to find pajamas in the fridge!? How?? Why?? I don’t even remember opening the fridge…

Maybe having kids would shock me out of this…😃

Yes, I have some questions for you all. First, why do you, personally, wear makeup? What do you think about what I’m thinking about makeup and dressing nicely?(follow that? :p) And finally, do you think I should order one of those sample kits from the mineral makeup company all the other people are trying and give it a shot? :o
Thanks in advance!
I wear makeup because I think I look awful without it. My skin tone is uneven and pale. I look half-dead without blush. If I wear nothing else, I wear blush. I also have acne-prone skin, so I like to cover my blemishes.

And glasses son’t mean you can’t wear a little makeup. Glasses can be as much of an accessory as blush and lip gloss. Since you’re worried about looking too made up, I’d say to try just some basic blush, a little foundation, and a sheer lip color, not an actual lip stick. Bert’s Bees makes some nice lip shimmers, but you can get tinted lip gloss most anywhere.

And finally, YES! Order a sample kit. What the heck! 😛 Join the dark side! Just kidding…👍

I would recommend anyone wanting to shape their eyebrows go to a nice, reputable salon and pay the aprox. $18-20 to have them shaped/waxed. It’s easy to mess up and overpluck. But if you have it done, all you have to do it keep up with them.

I actually loved having my eyebrows waxed every other week when I was a non-mother professional person. I found it very relaxing. Now I only do it once a year or so as a treat, usually on/around my birthday, and then keep up with the plucking.

Well, for starters, you are very pretty and have a lot to work with. Make up is not necessary, but I sort of like it myself.

My mom sent me to a finishing school of sorts when I was 15. There were quite a few classes on makeup, hair, clothing, visual poise etc. So, I did learn the basics there. Then my next door neighbor in high school was a manager of a high end department store and she made an appointment for me at the make up counter one day, and I learned a lot more. In both cases though, what I learned is that natural looking is the way to go.

I remember having my cousin who was a Mary Kay consultant and a beautician give me a make over. She caked it all on, and I immediately had to grab the kleenex and start rubbing it all off. Same with when they do ma hair at the hair salon, I need to go home and tame it down a bit to make me feel like me again.

If you are interested in starting, why don’t you go to Sephora and take them up on it when they offer to help you. Sephora is fun because it is a totally hands on store and you get to really experiment. I really just where lotion, a light foundation, mascara, blush, and lipsticl

And maybe try a little something with your hair. I’ve done the long and straight thing quite a bit myself, but I can’t tell you how nice a little bit of style is. I’m still partial to the long hair, so I just asked for long layers, a little bit of bangs, which I brush back off my face, and some texturing around my face. I curl it all and brush it back. It feels really nice compared to my long, straight, fine hair that can make me feel kind of washed out if I don’t do anything to it.

I mean, I don’t feel bad to go out with make up, but kind of spending that “me” time to make myself look my best is kind of a good cure for the blues. It’s kind of like investing in yourself. I mean there are so many other areas that we should do that. We shouldn’t only focus on appearance, but it’s not something we should overlook either.

First, you certainly have all the basics - beautiful lips and eyes, pretty skin tone, good bone structure. I think that maybe you’ve been too busy to think much about the “externals”, being a busy student.

I modeled YEARS ago, and still (decades later) enjoy trying new makeup. I remember my mother telling me that I would be glad when I was older that I had had oily skin during my teenage years! 😃 She was right, as people tell me I look much younger than…gasp…55.

You don’t have to go overboard to look absolutely fabulous, and the key is NATURAL. It sounds as if the minerals makeup would be a good start, and an eyebrow waxing/shaping. Eyes are the focal point of the face, and yours are beautiful. I can’t tell if they are blue or hazel; if blue, start with a little taupe eyeshadow, which will enhance the blue; if more on the brown side, greys often look good (the contrast is amazing.) The minerals makeup would be light and very natural, though giving the coverage you want (your skin is not bad, really.) With glasses, a bit of mascara would bring out those pretty eyes. I have really sparse, short eyelashes so mascara has always been my friend 🙂 You have lips most women would kill for - just a little rose lip gloss there (never emphasize BOTH eyes and lips - go soft on one, more definite on the other.) A bit of a rose blush and you will be polished without looking overdone.

Makeup is fun, and makes the best of what God gave us. It also helps us put our best foot forward and shows that we take pride (not in a bad way) in ourselves. Particularly when in the “real” working world, that goes a long way. Have fun with this - you’re young, smart and beautiful!

I wish I was that pretty in glasses!! Wow, pumpkin. I have to wear contacts to have any confidence at all.
Yes, I have some questions for you all. First, why do you, personally, wear makeup?
I don’t wear makeup. Yet. 😃 I’m still waiting for my Everyday Minerals order to get here.

But, I decided to make the jump from all-natural to natural-looking makeup for a few reasons.

(1) I’ve noticed how awfully tired I look at 2 months postpartum. Since I can’t get the sleep required to get rid of my dark circles, I might as well cover them up or lessen their intensity.

(2) Having 2 little ones, and being a stay-at-home mommy, has left me little time for myself. I need a hobby that I can do while taking care of the kids. I figure that if I get interrupted while playing with my makeup, I can always come back to it, and finally be done by the time my husband comes home. :rotfl: That way, I’m having fun, and have something to show for it at the end of the day.

(3) Mineral makeup is natural, and I’m not afraid it will ruin my complexion. I have great skin, and all the other makeups out there (with all the artificial junk they have) scared me.

(4) Peer pressure. 😛 My husband is getting into traditional shaving (think shaving brushes made in England of badger hair; smooth, scented shaving creams in nice jars; and an old fashioned safety razor inspired by those used in 1930). I wanted a nice grooming pick-me-up, too. And he bought me some wonderful pure-rose perfume made from rose oil – I love smelling like roses, not chemicals.

(5) Since getting married, being pregnant, and becoming a stay-at-home mom, I developed this inner desire to be “pretty.” I just can’t explain it.

If you order a free sample, make sure you have (or know someone who has) access to brushes. After all, the samples won’t do you any good unless you can use them. 😃
But be careful…we have ladies on the thread who have never worn make up and are now buying 20 eyeshadows, LOL:rotfl:
Sheepishly raising my hand That would be me. 😊

I am stealing this from the EM thread:

Shiann:
I’m a lurker flybaby and one of their mantras is ‘put your shoes on’ everyday. **The idea is, get ready for the day, shoes, fix your hair, do your makeup if you wear it etc. When you spend a second on yourself, your more confident in tackling the day. ** I have to say that since getting my EM (remember I was already a BE chick) I have been ‘getting ready’ everyday, and my whole daily attitude has changed. I feel ready. I feel pretty. I feel like a girl (a fat heffelump of a pregnant girl but hey ;))

It does make even the smallest difference in the way we approach life. Obviously we don’t spend every waking moment in front of the mirror, and that’s not what this makeup is about. ** It’s about finishing getting dressed and enhancing the beauty that God already gave us. ** Some of us have awesome skin and that added glow from the foundation or blush makes us radiant. Whatever our beauty, putting healthy makeup on helps protect our skin and gives us confidence. Being able to walk down the hall and glance in the mirror and catch the beauty that God gave each of us and feel confidence and love for God is part of that gift. To me its how I reflect my gratefulness back to God for that which he has given me physically. It isn’t necessarily a ‘show’ to the rest of the world.

I also LOVE rose oil - just yummy and natural.

Sounds as if your theme these days is “I Enjoy Being a Girl”! 🙂

Wow, so many replies!

First of all, thank you to everyone who said I was pretty. ^^;; It is nice to hear that from complete strangers, in a way, rather than my mom and bf… after all, love is blind. 😛

After reading through what everyone has said, I think I will order a sample kit from Everyday Minerals (yes, I have been lurking in that thread :P), just to try it and see if I like it. I have a friend who is really good with makeup, so I’ll ask her if she knows about mineral makeup, and I think there are some youtube videos demonstrating how to apply it. I would like to just try and cover up the blemishes, really, and perhaps have a bit of fun with sparkling eyeshadow 😛 As several people said, makeup should be about enhancing yourself, and not covering yourself up, right? So I guess if I go at it with that attitude, I should be alright.

Please, keep the replies coming! I’m interested in why other people wear makeup.
Hey, did you ever try proactiv? It worked great for me when I was having acne problems. Even better than the prescription things that the doctors were prescribing.

I used Proactiv and it burned my skin. Chemical burns are not fun.

Once I started working with my skin, instead of against it, my breakouts stopped.

Pumpkin,

As everyone has said, you are starting from a good place. Now to find your style! I’m a Bare Minerals person because I like the colorless mineral veil that goes over the foundation minerals (skin color). It does some great light reflecting trick that will camo even a raised zit. I’m sure the videos will show you how to do that until you lose your last one.

Remember to wash your make up brushes with mild liquid soap at least once per week and let them air dry so that you don’t keep putting bacteria back onto your face or into your makeup!

I also recommend Burt’s Bees sheer colors of lip balm (at drugstores about $3.50) instead of actual lipstick. They are very moist and have peppermint oil which smells yummy. You can stick one in your jeans pocket if you don’t carry a purse because they are smaller than a Chapstick.

Regarding skin care, I think that is more important than make up. My aunt tried some famous model’s secret to beautiful skin that is working for all of us from oily skinned younger folks to my 86 year old grannie. We got a natural bristle man’s shaving brush and the old fashioned Pears brand bar of “soap” for cleaning our faces. It looks like a Neutrogena bar, but it is even milder. One bar will last for a really long time and it will remove makeup including mascara.

Using the wet brush to lather up any mild facial cleanser would probably help your skin because a zit is nothing but a clogged pore. I think the soft natural bristles help to keep the pores clear and the mild, natural soap keeps our skin balanced and not too oily or dry. (I had combo skin with an oily nose and dry cheeks and forehead. Now it is balancing out after about 2 months.)

Don’t forget to wear something with sunscreen every single day! Oil of Olay has a SPF 15 in its moisturiser for oily skin and the Bare Minerals also has SPF 15 in the foundation minerals. If you are going to be outside for a while wear a hat or visor and a “real” sunscreen for faces with SPF 30 or more! Zits will eventually go away for most of us, but skin like wrinkly leather is forever.

For a clothing style, I recommend watching “What Not to Wear” on TLC if you have cable. They do major fashion make overs on people who really need help. I like it because they explain why certain styles work on certain body types. Just remember to buy fewer quality pieces in your classic things that will last you for many years (like basic slacks or a wool blazer). Check end of season sales and thrift stores for bargains. It will save you money in the long run over having many, cheap items that are poorly made.

I’m not ignoring the other posts, but this one caught my attention: what exactly do you mean, working with your skin? Does that mean not washing, and letting it do what it wants, or what? 🤷

I’m going to the pharmacy tonight to see if I can find makeup brushes, and I’ll look for the Burt’s Bees stuff, those sound nice.

Oh, and my eyes are green, with a bit of brown/orange near the middle, and a hint of blue around the outside. Really weird color, I know. 😃
