I’m going to the pharmacy tonight to see if I can find makeup brushes, and I’ll look for the Burt’s Bees stuff, those sound nice.
We love Burt’s Bees! Check out www.burtsbees.com . They have lots of yummy stuff.
Oh, and my eyes are green, with a bit of brown/orange near the middle, and a hint of blue around the outside. Really weird color, I know. 😃
A friend of mine with dark green eyes has orange specks, too! That’s so cool.

I have green eyes, and mine are weird, too. Not as colorful as yours, but I’m hoping that a little eye makeup will get my eyes noticed. Everyone thinks I have blue eyes, when I ask what color they are and slam them shut. 😃 When I say, “Green,” and open them up, they’re always surprised. Weird, huh?

Mmm Burt’s Bees…also, if you tend to have allergic reactions to lotions and soaps and the like Burt’s Bees will become your new best friend—a somewhat expensive best friend, but all the good ones are. 🙂

For bringing out the green, try a plum colored eyeliner or eyeshadow…I don’t think I’d go crazy and do both unless it was very subtle, but those colors bring out green.

Also, OP, just so you know, you can buy the makeup that’s at the drugstore for cheap (compared to department store counters…) and not be worried. Those work fine for everyone I know (maybe the foundations require more care? Clinique and the like? I know nothing about foundation). However, as long as you pick colors that work for you, Covergirl and Maybelline will probably be fine. Have fun!

I’m not ignoring the other posts, but this one caught my attention: what exactly do you mean, working with your skin? Does that mean not washing, and letting it do what it wants, or what? 🤷
Actually- I use cleansing oil, honey and apple cider vinegar.
The oil cleanses face, the honey heals and the vinegar exfoliates.
The combo of the three keeps the skin from getting over stripped (which causes the skin to over produce oil and causes breakouts) and works with the natural skin oils to cause a balance to occur.

PM me if you want more info.

However, drugstore brands use talc and mineral oil which clog the pores and can cause extensive skin oil output.

Before applying any make up, have you considered consulting with a dermatologist to address your acne? You may have allergies or sensitivities to certain substances or foods that could cause the application of make up to be more of a problem than a benefit. There is nothing more attractive than healthy skin. I would start there first.

(I am not the OP)
I used Proactiv and it burned my skin. Chemical burns are not fun.

Once I started working with my skin, instead of against it, my breakouts stopped.
I had that problem with the prescriptions from the doctor, but for some reason the proactiv seemed to clear things up without burning my skin. It seemed to soothe it. I’m sure as with anything, everyone reacts differently.

I would recommend anyone wanting to shape their eyebrows go to a nice, reputable salon and pay the aprox. $18-20 to have them shaped/waxed.
I go to an Asian owned nail salon where they charge $8 for waxing. They do a great job. I go about every 4 to 6 weeks.

Hello! 🙂 I’m 37 and have been experimenting with makeup since probably age 16. And I still am learning new things all the time, the world of cosmetics (even dermatology for that matter) can be incredibly overwhelming.

I feel there are two buckets when it comes to makeup. One is the “colors” – liners, shadows, mascaras, lipstick. The other is “face” including concealer, foundation, finishing powders, blushes, etc. I have unusually-colored skin somewhere around “Sallow” and “Olive” 🙂 and tend to have dark circles around my eyes (which I believe is due to off-and-on sinus congestion, but that’s another post!) So this blotchy skin tone of mine prompted me to look into foundation in my teen years, and I was determined to find something natural!

I played around with different “color” products – trying all manner of eyeliners/shadows and lipsticks. After 20 years of experimenting… I generally go with MAC lipsticks and eyes. If you are new to the world of cosmetics, perhaps start with just a little mascara and a good lipstick, maybe a little cheek color. Start easy and build up as you like. No rush! The MAC counter at your local dept store would be happy to try some on for size. Oh actually Avon makes some good stuff – including a lip “glaze” that I really like too! I think that even stuff in the drugstore may be appropriate to experiment and try some on for size without shelling out a lot of $… there is somewhat of a difference in quality for say, the shadows, but mascaras can be fairly similar (IMHO).

My biggest issue has always been a natural “face” and I’m willing to pay more for the right product. I’d never find that in the drugstore. The right product, for me, is very clearly Bare Escentuals; there is hands down no comparison in my book and I’ve tried just about everything including other brands of mineral makeup! They also are soothing to the skin and will not aggravate or cause acne. Their products already have SPF built in too, but I always put on a daily moisturizer first with a ton of SPF.

As far as breaking out… there are so many things that could cause it and the important thing is to ensure your makeup (or lotion, or anything) doesn’t cause or worsen it. Stress, hormones, surface bacterias, so many things lead to it and while a visit to the derm is a good idea, even they might not be able to solve it. I wish you all the best.

For me, an ongoing concern is also animal rights. I have to avoid using something they test on animals. Lately I’ve been buying soap that is tallow free, since tallow is actually beef fat! Tallow-free soap is not that hard to find, and the olive oil or lavender Italian ones (like from TJ Maxx and Marshall’s) are awesome. My skin has never felt so good, I don’t even need body lotion anymore!

Good luck and God bless!
