Hi everyone, Im currently 16 years old and im in my junior year of high school. I grew up in a pseudo-catholic household. I went to mass like once or twice a month. My parents didn’t encourage me to go to confession or to pray at all (my confirmation will be this year though). But thanks to God, and with the help of real Catholics in my family, I converted (this “process” started last year in October). I now go to mass like 6 times a week and pray and read a lot. Lately, I’ve been feeling that maybe God really wants more from me. That I really need to give EVERYTHING to him. That I can help the Church and the people of it, be closer to Christ.
But I’m not sure, because all my lfe, I thought on being a Doctor. I never thought of myself doing anything else. Now I’m very anxious and afraid of what will my parents say, about money, about having a wife, about everything that I wouldn’t be able to have if I become a priest. But at the same time, I think of all the things that I CAN do because of being a priest. Please help. God bless.

Please get a local spiritual director. The only thing we on these forums can do is pray for your intentions to be purified.

Make a consecration to Our Lady, using either the deMontfort or Koblean methods, and see if that brings any peace. If you’re not doing Eucharistic adoration, I would suggest starting. That usually brings clarity.

Many dioceses and religious orders require a waiting period of a certain length for new converts.

If you’ve only converted (or re-verted) to the Faith since last October, you may consider giving your discernment process a full year or two to really develop. Spend that time growing in prayer and spiritual formation.

Consider visiting a religious house or diocesan seminary, too. Two great books on discerning the priesthood are: Rediscovering the Glory of the Priesthood by Scott Hahn and To Save a Thousand Souls by Fr. Brett Brannon.

You and your discernment will be in my prayers.

God bless.

I do not have kids yet, but I would be excited to learn one of my kids wanted to be in a religious order instead of marriage. To me, it would show that I did something right (not that not having a priest or nun means I did anything wrong) in raising my future kids Catholic.
