Discerning thoughts...what kind of sin?

was reading a review for a movie and noticed that the review mention that the film contained alot of sexual material. i kept reading the review…almost peaked by the descriptions, they explained in detail the types of sexual explicit acts which warranted the R rating. this intrigued me. however, i realized that i was no longer reading the review to be warned not to see the movie, but instead reading the review for reading the sexually explicit acts that it contained. now, when i realized this, i quit reading, changed the website and no longer dwelled on it. my question is, is this a mortal sin? essentially it was just a thought and i didnt act on anything. thanks for any help

one could make the argument that a sinful thought equals a sinful act. becuse god looks at our hearts not our actions since any action starts first in our thoughts. i.e. you can not drink water without thinking about picking up a glass of water. further we are told to make all thoughts subsservient to Christ jesus. So yes it would be a sin of the heart but not a sin of the flesh. It would be called an incomleat action almost like half a sin. but in aknowleging the sinful thought removing yourself from it you did almost an act of repentance in exorcising the thought from your mind.

I do not think this was a sin, but a failure. You did not intentionally go to the website to read about the sexual content and when you realized you began to misuse the site you changed the website. I would confess this if it causes you anxiety. The bottom line is that you have to be willing in-order to sin.

if ever there was a sin I believe it would be venial since although you knew that what you would read was an explicit description of sexual matters you did not ingratiate yourself more and willingly derived pleasure from it. It was good that you realized what was happening and stopped reading. The enemy is wise to set his traps.

The point is by the time you realised or became aware you were doing wrong you quit reading. Therefore no sin has occurred. Au contraire a triumph of the will to quit.
