Discernment & pain about past sins

Littlesoul, just my opinion here, but be truly, truly honest with yourself.

Do you honestly believe that God tells lies and that He is too little and puny to do what He says He will do? Or do you honestly believe that God is all powerful and cannot deceive or lie to us? You honestly have to pick one or the other, you can’t have it both ways.

If you have gone to confession and confessed your past, then God has truly forgiven you, your past is over, and God has made you new and clean again. You either believe that with your whole heart and walk away from that confession clean, new, forgiven, never to dwell on it again, or you don’t let it go, and tell God that He wasn’t loving, and powerful enough to truly forgive you and make you a clean, new person. If you truly trusted that God had forgiven you, you wouldn’t keep rehashing this, and you would let it go and move on. You have to take your hand away from the end of the pool you’ve been holding onto, let go, and totally trust God and swim to the other side where He has been waiting for you. You either totally trust God, or you don’t. All the best to you and God bless.

Tuscany, thank you for the reply! I don’t at all doubt that God has forgiven me… my issue is something else… I guess it’s more about the effects of sin, rather than the guilt, I hope that makes sense
God bless you too!

I knew a priest who used to say, at the end of Confession: “Your sins have been forgiven. Now forgive yourself.” It was very powerful and meaningful, to me and to many others.
