Who here remembers and enjoys disco music? No I’m not talking about the immoral ‘lifestyle’ and drugs that often went with it, but the music itself. I was in my teens and early 20s when disco was at it’s peak, and I have to say that I enjoyed it very much. The strings the horns, and the words you could actually understand. It hooked you with it’s beat.
I knew people who hated disco preferring heavy metal. To me they were the ones into drugs, often. They would say “Rock and Roll is where it’s at man”. And by rock and roll they meant Metal only. They even hated pop music. If it was not ugly music they could not stand it.
I really get the idea that the haters of disco were often prejudiced, because disco was often popular with racial and sexual minorities… OUCH!
I was in college with an interacial couple, that married. But they hated disco as well. They even called me “Gaylord” just because I enjoyed disco!
Now music is all over the place. There are no longer any top 40 radio stations around here, just very specialized stations playing to particular audiences. But disco is not dead it just evolved into dance music and even rap.
