I was not talking about mass, or liturgical music at all, and I like Gregorian chant as well.
Did you know there was a disco song named Gloria back in the early 80s? 🙂
But it was just about a girl named Gloria. I can’t remember who sang it though.
Laura Branigan

…And to invoke the aforementioned Bee Gees, well, in retrospect, I am of the opinion that the brothers Gibb were musical geniuses and highly underrated.
Said this recently to someone myself. I think the issue was that silly falsetto they made their trademark. If they had sung in more normal voices more often…

Chic were also on my list of faves. Good times…

Yup. I have Bee Gees songs on my iPod than I would have thought when I first got it.

My taste in music is diverse but it was still surprised. I wasn’t sure I wanted people knowing I was groovin’ to “Night Fever” but I don’t care who knows I’m listening to “If I Can’t Have You” by Yvonne Elliman. A song written by the Brothers Gibb, sung by Elliman = Perfection.
“Emotion” by Samantha Sang
“Islands in the Stream” by Kenny and Dolly
“Grease” by Frankie Valli

Barry also wrote “To Love Somebody” for Otis Redding, who planned to record it, but he unfortunately died. Mr Dock of the Bay obviously thought this Aussie lad had some soul chops.

Other “serious” artists dabbled in the disco beat. The Stones had “Miss You”, and Rod Stewart put out “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy”.

Nicolette Larson put out a soft disco version of a Neil Young song – “Lotta Love”.

And there is a disco version of “I Who Have Nothing” by – I kid you not – Robert “Benson” Guillaume. (It’s actually pretty good.)

Even the Beach Boys with Good Vibrations.

And “I Just Want To Be Your Everything” by Andy Gibb

Whoa. I didn’t know that.

Brother Andy gives you an idea of what they would have sounded like without the falsetto.

Le freak, c’est chic! Let’s just say I kind of owned that one in 8th grade. Or thought I did. :blushing:

I LOVE playing disco guitar and funk.

I was just jamming out to Chic yesterday.

I LOVE disco, I was born in 1974 unfortunately, so I was not able to enjoy this time period, I would have loved to be in my early 20s back then though!!!

Cannot get enough of the brothers Gibb.
