Discouraged about pregnancy symptoms

I had nausea and vomiting throughout both of my ‘successful’ pregnancies. I happened to have misdiagnosed preeclampsia as well. Later my general practitioner doctor confirmed it. long story but I had changed providers in my first, and that made things harder to catch. The third pregnancy, the OB was dismissive of my complaints during my pregnancy and then was nothing but apologetic after the delivery. Because it turns out I was ‘this close to stroking out’.

It isn’t normal for you to be this sick, this long into your term. Period. Keep a journal of what you eat and your symptoms and go to your doctors office with it.

You are in my prayers. Our Lady of LaLeche pray for us!

My doctor isn’t dismissive. He’s prescribed me appropriate medication, told me to drink extra water, and monitoring me for signs of preclampsia. My blood pressure hasn’t come up high even once when it’s been tested and I have no other symptoms. The doctor says that some women do experience nausea into their second trimester or even for their entire pregnancy and as long as I’m not vomiting regularly, it isn’t dangerous in and of itself.

Unfortunately this pregnancy (second for me) has been worse then my first. Up until about 16 weeks it was really bad; since then I’ve had some good days but also a few pretty bad ones still. It is getting better though, finally.

Zofran gives me migraines; have you tried asking for something else since it’s not working that well for you? I have Promethazine which is actually an antihistamine, and I second the B6 as well. Sometimes people take B6 with Unisom at night and say it works well.

I recently took the emesis bags out of my purse, so hopefully not much longer for you too!

In my area we have a medication called Diclectin. It’s a combo of B6 and an antihistamine. It’s indicated for treatment of nausea and vomiting in pregnancy - the tablets have a picture of a pregnant woman on them. You might see if something similar is available in your area.

That much water can cause a drop in electrolytes and that causes nausea. Can you maybe replace some of the water with a sports drink?

I’m going to the pharmacy tomorrow, so I’ll see if it’s available. I can call the doc and make sure it’s okay with him.

I do sometimes buy a Gatorade. It tastes sweet and there’s a better chance that I’ll remember to drink it. It just gets pricey after a while and ice water is free.

I was grateful for my morning sickness - it meant I was pregnant. After years of infertility and a miscarriage without morning sickness, I took it as a good sign. Stay in contact with your doctors as others have suggested for close monitoring. Praying for you.

For DH we buy electrolyte drops that go into a bottle of water. Powerades cost .89 at WalMart, the WalMart brand drops cost around $3 so they are less expensive than the name brand for sure!

Yup. It may take a few tries to find a flavour that you like, so just be aware of that. (My kid used to called Pedialyte “the barf drink” - we used it when anyone had a stomach ailment and she hated it.) There are also Pedialyte Popsicles and freezies.

Ginger for nausea all the way! Eat ginger biscuits throughout the day.

They also sell powdered, flavored electrolyte mixes that can be added to a water bottle. They have them in Walmart pharmacy or baby section right by the pedialyte. My daughter drinks it better than the already mixed pedialyte and it’s much cheaper. I use it at times and the lemon flavored ones aren’t too terrible. I usually mix it, freeze it in ice cube trays, and use it as ice in the water bottle I carry around. As the ice melts it mixes with the water. That way the flavor isn’t as overwhelming.

Ginger, peppermint, crackers, anything at all bland or “bread like” has the opposite effect with me. It sits in my stomach like a rock and makes me gag all day long.

We went on a trip this weekend to see family in Wisconsin and I felt great for two days. I got the idea that it was my prenatals that were making me sick. I’m using a new kind with this pregnancy that are chewable because the regular ones were so hard to swallow. I couldn’t take them on the trip through because they melt really easily when the car gets hot. I was so excited to try going to work today after not taking the gummy prentals, in hope that I would feel better. Unfortunately, it isn’t the vitamins. Maybe it was the cool temperatures? Will someone people tell Missouri that it’s September?

I grew up in Mo. The weather there is hotter some days than where I live in FL. Hope it’s smoother sailing until delivery day.
