janstar_21:
I have just heard a discussion of a JIL member and INC member. They are discussing about Jesus as Lord and God. INC don’t believe that Jesus Christ is God…he believes that Jesus Christ is Lord; while JIL believes that Jesus Christ is the Lord and God.
As a Catholic, I just would like to ask what’s the difference between Lord and God? Isn’t it that the bible of JIL, INC and Catholics are different in contents?
Janstar:
Arius believed that Jesus was Lord… He just didn’t believe that Jesus was God or in any way equal to God. His heresy was a large part of the reason for the first 3 Ecumenical Councils and for the Nicene Creed we say every Sunday at Mass.
“Lord” or “Kyrios” is supposed to be a translation of the Name of God, which is YHWH (“I Am that which is”). The Jews have said the word “Adonai” for the last 3,500 years so they wouldn’t have to say the Name of God (“YHWH”) which they still hold to be sacred. This has been usually translated as “Lord” or “Kyrios”, which has been sometimes translated as “Sir” (like a knight), making the “Lord” human royalty or something between God and Man (a Hero or a Demigod).
This might be the source of the confusion… “Kyrios” or “Lord” can be a substituted for the name of God, or it can be a human royal title or can be used in the way described above (Demigod/Hero)
This is heresy as defined by the first three Ecumenical Councils of the Church and is contrary to our Lord’s words regarding himself.
You are better off sticking around orthodox Cathoics until you understand this stuff thoroughly. And, even then, you want to make sure that you have a partner to make sure that you are sticking to the Scriptures and the teaching of the Church.
I don’t know that the initials mean or even if there the correct initials. But they don’t sound like good news if they’ve infiltrated a parish or any other congregation for that matter.
I hope this clears things up.
In Christ, Michael
