Deb, my Church of England grandmother (and Jews today) would not allow anything to be placed on top of a Bible, nor would she permit any of her 8 children near a Bible with a pencil or pen in their hands. She treated “the Book” with great reverence and care. Not a bad idea, really.

No, not a bad idea at all.🙂 but there is a difference between respecting a book and thinking it is Jesus!:eek: I think that probably the pastor in the Op didn’t think through his words. If I literally thought the bible was Jesus I would be terrified to open it for fear that a page would rip.How could you do anything but lay face down on the floor in awe before the book?

I know that most of the Protestants that I know don’t mind writting and taking notes in their bibles(I do the same, so I am not condemning). I have been to some church services where pastors use the bible as a hammer on the podium to get their point across. If these pastors literally thought that the bible was Jesus-I don’t think that they did-then they are certainly being disrespectful.:nope:

Perhaps the pastor was using a metaphor and not speaking literally?:hmmm: I hope so.

Heh, heh. I completely agree.

But then, after reading Daniel 5, my Church of England Grandmother saw a hand writing on the wall – Did it say “Tekel, tekel, mene uparshin?” Nope. It said: “Cleveland.” So she made my grandfather take the whole family from St. Catherine, Quebec to Cleveland.
 
I wonder if this guy just really misinterpreted John 1:1?
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

You know what it might have been just a statement thrown out there, as he has responded to my email.

He said, "to be more specific Jesus=Word and starts to explain that I should read John 1st Chapter. I have no problem with Jesus being the Word as this what I believe. I will try to see if I can get any response to his initial statement, but it looks like he might be backpedaling now from his email to me. Unless he responds and wants to defend that statement.
