Disgusted by my church

I live in Sweden which is a protestant country as you may be aware of most of Europe is. Im new to christianty and is a born again christian I was never raised as a christian. The first church i started going to I stopped going to because they werent being traditional. And I perfer being in a real church . We have alot of old churchs in Sweden . I got baptized not by being under water but having water sprinkled at me. I just found out in order to join christ you have to be submerged under water, Now im looking for a church that will do that. And thats the church i left. The swedish priests nor church never talks about ones soul, and how you have to be christian in order to save your soul. They never talk about hell, they only preach about love and love as if their morons. A few sundays ago they had to my surprise not me knowing about it prior a “pride sunday” I had to sit with gay people thinking that god is approving of their sins. My church is promoting sin! After that i started to lean on chatolicism. Thats why i joined this forum to learn more about the chatolic life. They do have a chatolic church in my city which i intend on going it will be my first time. But im just confused my church is confusing the priests are confusing me, I`m just torn between what the bible says and what my church is doing. Im disgusted.
 
most catholics are not baptized by submersion either, just so you know. it’s not an absolute requirement. but yes, feel free to go to the catholic church, but we don’t believe in the bible alone for authority, since it can be interpreted in many different ways. Just so you are aware, to avoid more disappointment. I definitely understand how you think protestanism is confusing, it definitely is, but I’m not entirely sure what ou are looking for at this point
 
First of all, Catholics don’t believe submersion is required for baptism.

Second of all, while Catholicism says that gay sex is sinful, we “love the sinner, hate the sin.” Gays are welcome to come to church. If they are committing serious sins in the eyes of the church, such as having gay sex, they are not supposed to receive Holy Eucharist until they confess and resolve to sin no more, but since we do not chuck them out of Mass or other church services you may well find yourself sitting next to them in a Catholic church too. Some churches even have special gay-oriented prayer services (see the LGBTQ Vespers thread).

The Catholic Church doesn’t consider just having a same sex attraction to be sinful in and of itself as long as you stay chaste and don’t act on it.

If you wish to join the Catholic Church and like tradition, I suggest you attend a Traditional Latin Mass near you or an FSSP parish. Catholicism is the oldest Christian religion, as you already probably know. Many Christian religions have caved into the pressures of society on topics such as contraception and abortion. In fact, most (if not all) Protestant religions used to be against contraption until the 1930s. The Catholic Church has not and will not change its stance.

That’s what you’ll find in the Catholic Church. Unwavering, unchanging doctrine and dogma.
 
I would suggest listening to Catholic Radio like Stations of the Cross radio station, definitely attending the Catholic Church, speaking with the priest, and reading the Catholic Catechism. It sounds like you are in a rough spot and you will want to learn from the right resources, because even many that identify is Catholic speak heresy and may misguide you.

LD; the other posters have answered well your problem with gays and the Catholic Church. Just to reiterate, every man and woman was created in the image and likeness of God, was redeemed by Jesus Christ’s life, death, and resurrection, and is loved immensely by God, regardless of their behavior.
I have heard a good definition of the Catholic Church as a “place where sinners help other sinners find bread.” We are not a church of goody-goodys who are perfect. We all have our faults, failings, and problems.
One thing I might caution you on; if you are looking for quick answers about a religion, the Catholic Church is going to present a problem for you. I would venture to say that many of the Catholic posters on this forum would agree that the answers don’t always come in a quick and neatly wrapped package. It will take time to learn what the Catholic Church believes and stands for. If you wish to continue your investigation of the Catholic Church, I urge you to be patient. And also, to continue to use this forum for your questions. There are many good priests, religious people, and good old “regular joes” who can give great insight, encouragement, and loving and friendly advise and answers to any and all your questions.

Just don’t be disappointed if the specific Catholic church you go to is also progressive.

Tradition is hard to find these days.
 
What you are going through isn’t unusual. Religious institutions that are inconsistent and just run along with the culture actually drive people away, because people are attracted to logic and reason.

I would encourage you to attend the Catholic Church and to come on here if you have more concerns or questions. Some users can be helpful.

You do understand that you are talking about a priestly fraternity that has less that 300 priests in the entire world?

They have no presence in Sweden.

As a priest, I wish you well in your faith journey and I hope that the Catholic parish in your city will be able to provide you with opportunities to grow in your relationship with the Lord.
